Antenna: Description and Operation

91 - Integrated Antenna System

Antenna Diversity

The Boxster/S (987) is equipped with an effective windshield antenna as standard equipment. As on the previous Boxster (986) model, antenna diversity forms part of the optional PCM package. The antennas are incorporated into the windshield and ensure excellent reception. The system switches over to another antenna if the signal for one antenna is inadequate or there is too much interference. One of the antennas is defined as the main antenna and is directly controlled. When tuned to FM (VHF), the radio supplies a ZF signal to the antenna diversity control unit. The control unit determines the signal quality from this signal. In case of low signal quality, alternative antenna (3 in all) are activated in succession until the signal from one antenna is assessed as "good".

In order to improve medium wave reception, a mast antenna is available on request at no extra charge. This antenna is mounted on the front right fender.

Telephone Antenna

The telephone antenna is designed for GSM 900 / 1800 MHz and supports the USA telephone networks AMPS and PCS 1900. The antenna is located under the cowl frame cover (front right of luggage compartment in front of the front windshield). The antenna and it's terminals are corrosion and waterproof. The terminal impedance is 50 ohm.
