Preliminary work
INFORMATION:
- On vehicles that have been used for a long time with open convertible top or with hardtop, it may be the case that the engaging of the locking hook must be aided by pulling the convertible top towards the windscreen with one of the finger plates in the convertible top frame. The folded convertible-top covering must first stretch again.
- The requirement for adjusting the Cabriolet convertible top is that the lid for the convertible top compartment must be adjusted.
- The requirement for adjusting the Cabriolet convertible top is that the roll-over bar must be calibrated.
- The requirement for adjusting the Cabriolet convertible top is that the convertible top gears must be adjusted.
Adjustment facility on push rods of convertible top gear
1. Convertible top in service position. Refer to Convertible-top service position.
2. Press left and right push rod springs -8- out of the lever.
Information:
- Prior damage to ball socket.
- Always press ball socket out tightly on the ball head.
- Always press ball head in centred on the ball socket.
Carefully press push rod -6- out of the convertible top support at the left and right with a screwdriver while keeping it tight to the ball head -3-. Swivel convertible top forward until the centring journals fit into the convertible-top mount. Lock convertible top.
3. Loosen fastening screw -2-. Screw ball socket -1- of push rod in carefully as far as it will go. Unscrew ball socket -1- until it is flush with the ball head -3-.
INFORMATION:
- Prior damage to ball socket
- Always press ball socket out tightly on the ball head.
- Always press ball head in centred on the ball socket.
4. Press ball socket of push rod -6- into the ball head -3- of the convertible top support.
5. Loosen the fastening screw -2-.
Push rod pressed in on convertible top support.
To adjust the push rod -4-, the lever -5- fitted with the push rod element -4a- must be pulled as far as possible - in the direction shown -Arrow- - in the slot into the elastomer buffer. Secure at this position. Tighten the fastening screw -2-. Tightening torque: 23 Nm (17 ftlb.)
6. Fit push rod springs 8 on the left and right.
Adjusting tension ropes on the hood frame
1. Position tension rope -1- on roll-over bar -2- and insert retaining pin -3- in -direction of arrow A-. Swivel clamp -4- in -direction of arrow B- and press it in on the tension rope.
2. Loosen hexagon nuts -1 and 2- and adjust the contact pressure between the tension bow seal and the hood compartment lid by screwing the adjustment hexagon -3- in and out.
Counter the hexagon nut -1- for the adjusting hexagon -3- and counter the hexagon nut -2- for the mount -4-.
Adjust the contact pressure in such a way that a 0.5-mm bank card can be pulled between the tension bow seal and the sealing strip on the hood compartment lid on all sides.
3. Close the hood completely and check the tension on the tension ropes manually through the cabin.
The tension ropes must be fully tensioned. Tighten them again if necessary.
