Crankshaft Bearing Bridge/Main Bearings
1010 - Crankshaft Bearing Bridge/Main Bearings (Boxster 2.7)
Following intensive development efforts, it has been possible to reduce the weight of the Boxster (987) crankshaft bearing cradle on the engine by 12.1 lbs (5.5 kg). This has been achieved by eliminating the grey cast iron inserts. In order to attain the necessary strength in the crankshaft drive, the main bearings have had to be reinforced. As a result, the thickness of the main bearing shells has increased from 2.5 mm to 3.0 mm.
