CHECKING AND TOPPING UP THE ATF

Note: Fill only with ATF approved by Porsche.

Note: Hot vehicles should cool down before beginning the activity.

Note: Vehicle must be horizontal in order to be filled and checked.

Preliminary work
1. Raise the vehicle at the prescribed jacking points.
2. Remove support plate.
3. Attach the filled ATF filling device V.A.G. 1924 00000 as high up on the vehicle as possible.
4. Place oil collection pan under the transmission.

Checking and topping up the ATF
^ The transmission must not be in the reduced driving program.
^ The ATF temperature must be between 30° C and 45°C. An ATF inspection when the temperature is too high causes insufficient filling, while an inspection when the temperature is too low causes over-filling.
^ The selector lever must be in position P and the engine must be idling.
^ The air conditioning must be switched off.
^ The vehicle must stand horizontally.

Note: The ATF temperature at the start of testing must not be higher than 40° C.

1. Connect the PIWIS Tester 97180 and call up the ATF temperature.





2. Put selector lever in position P, start vehicle, and allow engine to idle.

WARNING: Danger of scalding and chemical burns from hot ATF
=> Allow ATF to cool down
=> Wear personal protective gear (goggles, gloves)

3. Unscrew ATF filler plug -1-.

WARNING: Risk of scalding from hot oil
=> Let the oil cool down
=> Wear personal protective gear (goggles, gloves)

If ATF escapes the ATF level is OK. Continue with Item 5.
If no ATF escapes the ATF level is too low. Continue with Item 4.

WARNING: Danger of scalding and chemical burns from hot ATF
=> Allow ATF to cool down
=> Wear personal protective gear (goggles, gloves)





Note: The filler hook of the ATF filling device V.A.G. 1924 00000 must be carefully inserted into one of the openings of the ATF guard cap. Never push the filler hook upwards as the oil guard cap -2-can spring off upwards.

4. Fill up with ATF using ATF filling device V.A.G. 1924 00000 until surplus ATF escapes at the hole of the ATF filler plug.

Note: On reaching a maximum ATF temperature of 45° the ATF filler plug must be closed.





5. Fit ATF filler plug with a new sealing ring.

Subsequent work
1. Install support plate.
2. Lower the vehicle.
