Note:
For the sake of clarity, an overview (block diagram) of the parts to be installed and the systems/components concerned is provided.








1. Block diagram

2. Preparatory work

2.1 Remove headliner.

2.2 Remove A-pillar trim panel at the bottom and middle.

2.3 Remove right scuff plate.

2.4 Remove glove compartment.

2.5 Remove PCM2.1 operator control unit.

2.6 Remove trim panel under dashboard on the driver's side.

2.7 Remove instrument cluster.

2.8 Unscrew fastening screw on support for transfer box control unit and Tiptronic control unit.

2.9 Remove seat frame on the front passenger's side.

2.10 Remove upper part of rear spoiler.





2.11 Remove left antenna wire harness from the connection point in the passenger compartment to the rear spoiler => Figure 4 -arrows- and lay it aside on a protective support.





2.12 Remove the left antenna amplifier => Figure 5 -arrow-.

3. Add telephone antenna line (retrofit kit) to the left antenna wire harness.





3.1 Open lock on antenna connector => Figure 6 -A-, carefully lift up the locking lug => Figure 6 -B- and pull antenna line out of the connector.

3.2 Guide telephone antenna line through the rubber sleeve in the rear spoiler.





3.3 Remove wrapping tape => Figure 8 -A- from the rubber sleeve. Guide telephone antenna line => Figure 8 -B- through the rubber sleeve and secure it to the left antenna wire harness with wrapping tape.

3.4 Insert antenna line into the connector and close the lock.





4. Secure telephone antenna => Figure 9 -A- and join connection point => Figure 9 -arrow-.





5. Install the left antenna amplifier => Figure 10 -arrow-.





6. Route left antenna wire harness => Figure 11 -A- from the rear spoiler to the connection point in the passenger compartment and fit rubber sleeve => Figure 11 -B- in the roof.

7. Install telephone antenna line (long).

7.1 Route telephone antenna line (long):








Disconnection point in passenger compartment => Figure 12 -A- --> along wire harness for roof at the right --> right A-pillar => Figure 13 --> right wiring duct --> installation position for telephone control unit.





7.2 Join connection point for telephone antenna line at the rear right => Figure 14 -arrow- and fit into connection point.

8. Install optical waveguide.





8.1 The procedure for connecting the optical waveguide is explained here using the variant PCM2.1/CD autochanger or CD autochanger preparation as an example.





8.2 Press optical waveguide (input) => Figure 16 -X- out of the optical waveguide connector on the navigation unit and expose optical waveguide => Figure 16 -arrow-.





8.3 Insert removed optical waveguide (input) => Figure 17 -X- into the optical waveguide connector (retrofit kit) => Figure 17 -Z-.





Insert optical waveguide (input) from the retrofit kit => Figure 19 -B- into the optical waveguide connector on the navigation unit => Figure 18 -A-.





8.4 Insert optical waveguide into the T-piece => Figure 19 -arrow-. Close the T-piece and secure it to the main wire harness with tie-wraps.

9. Install electric wire harness.





9.1 Bundle and wrap electric wire harness.

A - 32-pin connector





9.2 Route electric wire harness from the right seat bracket, along the original wire harness to the right fuse box and secure in place.

A - Electric wire harness

B - 32-pin connector

C - BN lines, ground pin (MB26)

D - BK/GN, RD/BK, RD/YE lines

E - WH/RD line





9.3 Crimp cable shoe on BN 0.5sq ground straps and secure at the ground pin (MB26) under the seat => Figure 22 -arrow-.





9.4 Crimp WH/RD 0.35sq line from the retrofit kit and WH/RD 0.35sq line (vehicle side) from the navigation unit together as a splice => Figure 23 -arrow-.





9.5 Remove fuel carrier => Figure 24 -arrow- from the dashboard at the right.

9.6 Unlock locking lugs on both sides and remove rear fuse carrier cover from the fuse carrier.





9.7 Pull locking pin => Figure 25 -A- out of the fuse carrier.

9.8 Connect BK/GN 0.5sq line (retrofit kit) and BK/GN 0.5sq line (vehicle side).

9.8.1 Remove fuse F49 from fuse carrier.





9.8.2 Press out socket contact of BK/GN 0.5sq line (output) using 88040 => Figure 26 -A- and cut it off.

9.8.3 Crimp BK/GN 0.5sq line (retrofit kit) and BK/GN 0.5sq line (vehicle side) together with a new socket contact => Figure 26 -B-.

Note:
Ensure socket contact is seated securely.

9.8.4 Insert socket contact into the fuse carrier.

9.8.5 Insert locking pin into the fuse carrier.

9.8.6 Insert fuse F49 into slot.

9.9 Connect RD/YE 0.35sq line (retrofit kit) and RD/YE 0.35sq line (vehicle side).

9.9.1 Remove fuse F36 from fuse carrier.

9.9.2 Press out socket contact of RD/YE 0.35sq line (output) using 88040 and cut it off.

9.9.3 Crimp RD/YE 0.35sq line (retrofit kit) and RD/YE 0.35sq line (vehicle side) together with a new socket contact.

Note:
Ensure socket contact is seated securely.

9.9.4 Insert socket contact into the fuse carrier.

9.9.5 Insert locking pin into the fuse carrier.

9.9.6 Insert fuse F36 into slot.

9.10 Connect RD/BK 0.5sq line (retrofit kit) and RD/BK 0.5sq line (vehicle side).

9.10.1 Remove fuse F4 from fuse carrier.

9.10.2 Press out socket contact of RD/BK 0.5sq line (output) using 88040 and cut it off.

9.10.3 Crimp RD/BK 0.5sq line (retrofit kit) and RD/BK 0.5sq line (vehicle side) together with a new socket contact.

NOTE:
Ensure socket contact is seated securely.

9.10.4 Insert socket contact into the fuse carrier.

9.10.5 Insert locking pin into the fuse carrier.

9.10.6 Insert fuse F4 into slot.

9.11 Fit rear fuse carrier cover on fuse carrier.





9.12 Fit fuse carrier => Figure 27 -arrow- to the dashboard at the right.

10. Install electric wire harness for microphone.





10.1 Route microphone wire harness and secure in place:

Roof console --> left A-pillar --> PCM2.1 installation slot.





10.2 Crimp cable shoe on BN 0.5sq line (microphone wire harness, shield) and secure at the ground point in the roof => Figure 29 -A-.

10.3 Only for vehicles with Bose Surround Sound System.





10.3.1 Remove lock on connector => Figure 30 -A-.

10.3.2 Press pin contacts out of connector for microphone wire harness (retrofit kit).

10.3.3 Insert line BU 0.5sq Figure 30 -BU- in chamber 1 and line GY 0.5sq Figure 30 -BU- => Figure 30 -GY- in chamber 2 of the microphone wire harness (vehicle side).

10.3.4 Close the lock.

10.4 Connect GY 0.5sq line and BU 0.5sq line to the black 20-pin connector, chambers 8 and 9.





10.4.1 Cut off socket contacts -=> Figure 31 -A- on microphone wire harness and crimp new socket contacts N 103 358 01 => Figure 31 -B- to the microphone wire harness.





10.4.2 Open secondary lock => Figure 32 -arrow- on black 20-pin connector.

Note:
Ensure socket contact is seated securely.

10.4.3 Insert GY 0.5sq line into chamber 9 => Figure 32 -A- of the black 20-pin connector.

10.4.4 Insert BU 0.5sq line into chamber 8 =-> Figure 32 -B- of the black 20-pin connector.

10.4.5 Close secondary lock on black 20-pin connector.

11. Install telephone module.





11.1 Fit support and secure with plastic nuts => Figure 33 -A-.





11.2 Slide telephone module => Figure 34 -A- into support and secure with screws => Figure 34 -B-.

11.3 Connect antenna connector, optical waveguide and power supply connector => Figure 34 -C-.

12. Install microphone.





12.1 Unclip trim for switch => Figure 35 -A-.

12.2 Route line => Figure 35 -B- through trim for switch.

12.3 Insert microphone => Figure 35 -C- into trim for switch and clip in trim for switch.

13. Concluding work

13.1 Install seat frame at the front passenger's side.

13.2 Screw in fastening screw on support for transfer box control unit and Tiptronic control unit.

13.3 Install PCM2.1 operator control unit.

13.4 Install instrument cluster.

13.5 Install glove compartment.

13.6 Install trim panel under dashboard on the driver's side.

13.7 Install A-pillar trim panel at the bottom and middle.

13.8 Install right scuff plate.

13.9 Install rear spoiler.

13.10 Open the hood and connect battery charger.

warning:
Sudden voltage interruption of the power supply to the control module. Destruction of the control module.

=> During programming, it is essential to guarantee the power supply for the PIWIS Tester. It is essential to connect a battery charger with a current rating of at least 40 A to the vehicle battery.

=> Prior to disconnecting the control module, switch off the ignition and remove the ignition key.

Note:
The PIWIS Tester 9718 instructions take precedence and in the event of a discrepancy these are the instructions that must be followed. Deviations may occur with later software versions.

The procedure described here has been structured in general terms; different text or additions may appear in the PIWIS Tester 9718.

13.11 Code telephone control unit using the PIWIS Tester 9718.

13.11.1 PIWIS Tester 9718 must be connected and ignition switched on.

13.11.2 Select vehicle type and run control unit search.

13.11.3 Select PCM2 control unit and "PCM2. 1MMI" in the PCM2 menu.

13.11.4 Adapt the MOST required installed components list in the PCM2 MMI menu according to the MOST actual installed components list.

13.11.5 Select "Telephone" in the PCM2 menu.

13.11.6 Select "Coding" in the Telephone menu and code to the telephone band "USA", for example.

13.12 Switch to the Gateway control unit and select the "Coding" menu.

13.13 In the Gateway coding menu, select "Required installed components list" and code the telephone to Installed.

13.14 Once coding is complete, read out the fault memories of all systems, correct any existing faults and erase the fault memories.

14. Carry out function test.

15. Disconnect battery charger and close the hood.
