Removing and installing chain tensionerTools
Preliminary work
1. Move bonnet to service position using bonnet stay 9704.
2. Put on the protection covers.
3. Pull the design cover vertically upwards and off.
4. Remove engine compartment cover at center and rear.
5. Position crankshaft to the TDC of cylinder 1.

Removing chain tensioner
ATTENTION Engine damage can occur if the chain jumps over!
^ Never turn the engine on the crankshaft without a chain tensioner.
^ Make sure that nobody starts the engine or pushes the vehicle while in gear when the chain tensioner is removed.
^ Stick a warning note on the steering wheel or ignition lock.
1. Use a suitable tool to grip and release the chain tensioner to the right and side of the top chain case lid.-arrow-
2. Remove chain tensioner with sealing ring. Replace sealing ring.
Installing chain tensioner
ATTENTION Engine damage can occur if the chain jumps over!
^ Never turn the engine on the crankshaft without a chain tensioner.
^ Make sure that nobody starts the engine or pushes the vehicle while in gear when the chain tensioner is removed.
^ Stick a warning note on the steering wheel or ignition lock.
Note: Replace sealing ring on chain tensioner.
1. Screw in chain tensioner with new sealing ring.
2. Tighten chain tensioner. Tightening torque: 30 ft-lb.
3. Remove protective covers.
Subsequent work
1. Fit engine compartment cover at center and rear.
2. Re-install design cover.
