Component Tests and General Diagnostics
Troubleshooting with no control module connectedNOTE: The HBA control module differs from other systems that can be diagnosed: For example, voltage is supplied only via the dipped beam. In other words, the ignition and dipped beam must be switched on before the fault memory can be read out or communication established with the system. The HBA system is selected in the Porsche System Tester II No. 9588 only via menu item Special functions (during selection of the vehicle type)
The following text is displayed in the Porsche System Tester II No. 9588:
Communication problem with the control module.
- Restore connection by pressing [>>]
- Abort with [ESC]
NOTE:
- If it is not possible to communicate with the HBA control modules in the headlight, this may be caused by incorrect coding, e.g. both headlights are coded for one side. Remedy: Remove one headlight and restart connection setup using the Tester. Code control module correctly.
- The HBA (Xenon) control module is connected directly to diagnostic socket (16-pin, driver's footwell). The HBA (Xenon) control module and the Porsche System Tester II No. 9588 communicate via the 'K' lead'.
Diagnostic conditions
- Ignition on
- Dipped beam on
- Reference run completed
- Voltage supply is OK
- The Porsche System Tester II No. 9588 is functional.
NOTE: The function of the Porsche System Tester II No. 9588 and the diagnosis lead No. 9588/5 can be checked on another vehicle.
Possible causes of fault
- An incorrect vehicle type was selected on the Porsche System Tester II No. 9588.
- Voltage supply on HBA (Xenon) control module is not OK.
- 'K' lead' to diagnostic socket is faulty.
Affected pins
- HBA (Xenon) control module: Plug pin 2
- Headlight mounting plate plug: Pin 11
- Diagnostic socket: Pin 3
Diagnosis/troubleshooting
16-pin diagnostic socket (driver's footwell)
Connector assignment of 16-pin diagnostic socket
NOTE:
- The pin assignment of the headlight housing plug can be seen as a mirror image of the headlight mounting plate plug shown.
- A reference run to test headlight beam adjustment is performed each time the dipped beam headlight is switched on if the HBA (Xenon) control module is intact. The headlight swivels down and back up slightly again. With certain faults, the headlight swivels down again slightly or into a lower safety position after the reference run.
