Sunroof / Moonroof: Service Precautions
Panorama Roof System (PDS) Introduction
General instructions/safety instructions
Emergency closing:
NOTE: Before actuating the emergency button, ensure that the end positions of the roof are not blocked by foreign objects such as branches or pieces of ice.
In the knob position 'Roof completely closed', the switch can be pressed (emergency button). A roof which could be jamming can be closed in an emergency in this way. Anti-crushing protection does not operate in this case, and the full motor torque will be used.
WARNING: Danger of pinching.
CAUTION: Risk of damage.
Learning the end positions:
If any of the points mentioned below are suspected to have happened, it is recommended to relearn the end positions for the control unit. Before learning, switch off the ignition and switch it on again. To learn, the knob (emergency button) is to be pressed in the position 'Roof completely closed' until the roof is completed closed. First the sun blind closes completely, then the roof segments A(1) and B(2) and C(3). Learning the end positions must be carried out to completion, otherwise the roof cannot be electrically activated.
NOTE: Before teaching the end positions, the knob must be in the position 'Roof completely closed' and the ignition must be switched and switched on again.
The end positions must be learned when:
- The roof does not react when actuating the switch
- The end positions of the roof segments are not correct
- Battery or terminal 30 were interrupted
- Emergency operation using the crank was carried out
- Components (control unit, motor, elements) were replaced
- Roof segments or components were adjusted
NOTE: If a fault code of one of the Hall-effect sensors appears, the end positions must also be re-taught to the Panorama roof system control unit.
WARNING:
Danger of injury when actuating or automatically closing the Panorama roof system
- Make sure when actuating not to reach into the movement range of the mechanism.
- In case of danger, release knob or vehicle key or actuate in the opposite direction.
Danger of material damage when opening the roof.
- Never open the roof with force by using the crank in emergency operation. Danger of collision between roof segments B(2) and C(3).
- Always teach the end positions first after replacing components or moving the motors or roof segments (with ignition off). Never move in the direction of 'open' without learned end positions, danger of collision of roof segments B(2) and C(3).
CAUTION:
Danger of damage due to improper handling of batteries and control unit plug connections.
- Never disconnect battery with engine running.
- Never start engine if battery terminal clamps are not connected securely.
- Never pull off or push on plug connections for the control units or other electronic components when the ignition is switched on.
- Always disconnect the negative terminal of the battery and pull off all plug connections to the vehicle electrical system control unit when carrying out welding work on the vehicle.
