ATTENTION
Malfunctions in PCM2.1 system connection if data loading operation is interrupted.

^ If the data loading operation is interrupted due to a voltage drop, malfunctions can occur in the PCM2.1 system connection.

--> Before commencing work, connect a suitable battery charger (at least 40 A) to the jump-start terminals (in the engine compartment).

6.1 Open the drawer for the telephone card on the PCM2.1 operator control unit (--> Figure 2 -Item 2-) and remove the telephone card (if there is one there). Close the drawer again.

6.2 Press the Eject button (--> Figure 2 -Item 3-) and remove the audio CD from the CD slot (--> Figure 2 -Item 4-), if one was inserted.

6.3 Load PCM2.1 Repair Kit.

Note
The repair kit performs the update in either two or three stages, depending on the status of the audio CD drive:

^ Stage 1: Update to "Version Repair" (obligatory): This involves installing test software, which checks the audio CD drive for errors.

^ Stage 2: "Firmware update" (this update is only performed if the audio CD drive was found to be defective during the update to "Version Repair"): The "Firmware Update" corrects existing errors.

^ Stage 3: Software update to "Version R02 Plus" (obligatory): The modified PCM2.1 software is installed here.

ATTENTION
Malfunctions in the PCM2.1 system connection as a result of an incomplete update.

^ If the Repair Kit CD is removed from the CD slot before the update is complete, malfunctions can occur in the PCM2.1 system connection.

--> Only remove the Repair Kit CD from the CD slot when the software update to "Version R02 Plus" (Stage 3) is complete.

6.3.1 Insert the PCM2.1 Repair Kit CD, Part No. 000.043.205.47.004, into the CD slot (--> Figure 2 -Item 4-).

Note
If the audio CD drive was found to be defective in Stage 1 - Update to "Version Repair", a "Firmware Update" is performed in Stage 2. Otherwise, Stage 1 is followed directly by Stage 3 - Software update to "Version R02 Plus".

- Stage 2: "Firmware update"

The progress display "Single CD: Firmware update XX%" appears in the footer of the PCM2.1 display (--> Figure 2 -Item 5-) during the update process.

If the CD is not loaded again automatically, insert the CD into the CD slot manually.

The message "Single CD: checking data CD" appears in the footer of the PCM2.1 display (--> Figure 2 -Item 5-) when the CD is loaded.

The software update to "Version R02 Plus" (Stage 3) is performed after the "Firmware update".
