Checking Battery With Battery Tester
Checking Battery With Battery Tester
Technical values
Preliminary work
INFORMATION:
- No loads (e.g. opening doors, switching on light/radio, etc.) may be activated while the vehicle is jacked up and raised on the lifting platform.
- The time is long enough for the battery to rest for a few minutes.
- Before checking the battery with a battery tester, the voltage at the battery must remain static for a short time.
- The described sequence must be followed to ensure this rest period is observed.
1. Switch off all loads and remove ignition key.
2. Park the vehicle on the lifting platform.
3. Switch off lights, switch off ignition and remove ignition key.
4. Move backrest all the way forward. Move front seat all the way up and all the way forward.
5. Release the rear seat rail covers -arrows A- and remove them -arrows B-.
6. Move front left seat back and up as far as possible. Move backrest fully forward.
7. Unclip the front seat trim by pulling it forwards -A-.
8. Fold the carpet sections forward and remove the two fastening screws -1-.
9. Fold the seat back as far as possible. With the seat in its folded position, move the seat forward again using the fore-and-aft adjustment.
10. Open the four tension hooks on the battery box cover using a screwdriver.
11. Remove battery box cover with vent duct.

INFORMATION:

1. Connect battery tester to the vehicle battery.
INFORMATION:
The description given below is a general description. It is therefore important to follow the directions in the operating instructions for the battery tester used.
Before the battery test:
If the temperature of the battery cannot be estimated, e.g. if the outside temperature and the temperature in the workshop area differ considerably, the temperature of the battery must be measured using a commercially available infrared temperature gun, for example.
For battery measurements in the vehicle:
Measurements using the battery tester must be taken at the battery poles.
2. Battery temperature: The actual battery temperature must be input on the battery tester. If the temperature of the battery cannot be estimated, e.g. if the outside temperature and the temperature in the workshop area differ considerably, the temperature of the battery must be measured using a commercially available infrared temperature gun, for example.
3. Battery type: The type of battery (standard equipment - lead acid) >> type Normal must be selected here.
4. Test procedure: The evaluation method for current battery standard equipment stipulates that the values are determined in accordance with DIN.
5. Battery value: The battery value (low-temperature test current) is read off from the battery, e.g. the value is 340 A for a 12V 70 Ah battery. The value is 380 A for a 12V 80 Ah battery.
6. Start the test:
7. After a short time, the result of the test will be displayed. The functional state and the charge state, for example, will be displayed, depending on the type of tester.
8. The battery testers measure the battery voltage and the low-temperature test current. The measured values are compared and the subsequent procedure is displayed on the tester based on these values.

Subsequent work
1. Position the battery box cover carefully. The cover must be fitted properly.
2. Attach the four tension hooks on the battery box cover and close using the screwdriver.
CAUTION: Risk of material damage to screw connections for seat and seat frame.
- The fastening screws for seat and seat frame are coated and must be replaced after being unscrewed.
- Before screwing in the new fastening screws, clean the thread holes with an M10 x 1.5 tap.
3. Move the seat in its folded position towards the rear -arrow A- and then tip it forward -arrow B-.
4. Screw in fastening screws -1-. - Tightening torque: 45 Nm (33 ftlb.)
5. Clip in front seat trim -C-.
6. Install the rear seat rail covers.
Carry out work instructions after disconnecting the battery.
