Work Procedure
1. Only versions 1 to 4 Preparatory work.1.1 Remove first-aid kit and warning triangle.
1.2 Remove right side-panel lining for luggage compartment (Part ID 7003), right inner door entry trim (Part ID 6805) and A-pillar trim on lower right (Part ID 7024). Remove front right seat frame (Part ID 7209).
1.3 Loosen carpet lining in right seat area.
1.4 Disconnect and cover the battery (Technical Manual Group 9).
1.5 Remove car radio (Part ID 9124) or display and operator control unit PCM (Part ID 9110) and right fuse box cover (Part ID 7024).
1.6 Only vehicles with BOSE sound package:
Remove BOSE sound package with holder (Part ID 9160).
1.7 Remove cover under passenger's side instrument panel (Part ID 7022) and glove compartment (Part ID 6815).
2. Install and connect OW.
Important:
Observe requirements for working with OW and removing/installing optical contacts (Part ID 9768)!
Note:
Optical contact; color: always use grey as "signal input" on the component/control module. Optical contact; color: always use black as "signal output" on the component/control module.
Depending on equipment version, optical contacts must first be removed from the plugs of the radio/PCM, telephone module and/or the audio amplifier.
2.1 Version 1 - see, Figure 003.
2.1.1 Route 2 x OW (955 642 302 00) and install as follows:
Radio/PCM installation slot -> under instrument panel -> right A-pillar -> along vehicle-side wiring harness -> CD changer installation position.
2.1.2 Install 2 x plug (955 642 321 00) on OW.
2.2 Version 2 - see, Figure 003
2.2.1 Route 1 x OW (955 642 306 00) and install as follows:
Telephone module -> along vehicle-side wiring harness -> CD changer installation position.
2.2.2 Route 1 x OW (955 642 302 00) and install as follows:
PCM installation slot --> under instrument panel -> right A-pillar -> along vehicle-side wiring harness -> CD changer installation position.
2.2.3 Disconnect optical contacts from vehicle-side OW plug on the PCM (color: black) and telephone module (color: grey).
Note:
Vehicle-side OW remain functionless in the vehicle.
2.2.4 Install optical contact color: black; of OW (955 642 302 00) in PCM plug.
2.2.5 Install optical contact color: grey; of OW (955 642 306 00) in telephone module plug.
2.2.6 Install 1 x plug (955 642 321 00) on both OW (CD changer connection).
2.2.7 Connection diagram shown.
Note:
Figure 006 shows the optical contacts/plugs before (top) and after (bottom) installing the CD changer.
2.3 Versions 3 and 4, Figure 004.
2.3.1 Route OW (parts list item M) from audio amplifier to CD changer installation position.

2.3.2 Remove optical contact (A, vehicle-side OW) from plug "Z" (Figure 007 top).
2.3.3 Install optical contact (A, vehicle-side OW) in plug "Y".
2.3.4 Install optical contact (E) from OW (parts list item N) in plug "Y" (parts list 955 642 321 00).
2.3.5 Install contact (A) from OW (parts list item N) in plug "Z".
3. Only versions 1 to 4: prepare electrical wiring harness for CD changer.
3.1 Bundle wiring harness with electrical tape.
Note:
Length specifications are measured from CD changer plug (A).
3.2 Crimp cable ring eyelet to wire BN 0.5 squared.
4. Only versions 1 to 4: route electrical wiring harness for CD changer.
4.1 Route and secure electrical wiring harness as follows:
Right side wall > along vehicle side wiring harness -> radio/PCM2 installation slot.

4.2 Only vehicles with level control:
Release control unit for level control and set aside (Part ID 4316).
5. Connect the electrical wiring harness.
5.1 Attach cable ring eyelet to ground point "MB 40".
5.2 Only vehicles with level control:
Position the control unit for level control and clip in.
5.3 Establish power supply "F9/terminal 30".
5.3.1 Remove fuse carrier from right side of instrument panel (Part ID 7012).
5.3.2 Unlock locking lugs on both sides and remove rear fuse carrier cover.
5.3.3 Full locking pin (Figure 010, Item A) from fuse carrier.
5.3.4 Crimp the wire RD/YE 0.5 squared from the retrofit kit with new pin.
5.3.5 Insert pin in the fuse carrier.
Note:
Ensure that, pin is installed securely.
5.3.6 Push locking pin into fuse carrier.
5.3.7 Insert fuse 'F9' (5 amps) into slot.
5.3.8 Install rear fuse carrier cover.
5.3.9 Install fuse carrier at right of instrument panel.
5.4 Connect "pin C4" (wake up diagnosis) to 6-pole yellow plug C (radio/PCM2).
5.4.1 Only vehicles with MOST component:
Press out pin of WH/RD 0.35 squared wire with 93005 (A) and disconnect. Bundle WH/RD 0.35 squared wire from retrofit kit with WH/RD 0.35 squared wire (vehicle-side) and crimp with a new pin (B). Insert pin into the fuse carrier.
Note:
Ensure that pin is installed securely.
5.4.2 Only vehicles without MOST component:
Crimp WH/RD 0.35 squared with new pin. Insert pin into the fuse carrier.
Note:
Ensure that pin is fitted securely.
6. Installing CD changer: --> Refer to Install CD Changer.
7. Complete the vehicle.
7.1 Install right luggage compartment side-panel lining store the first-aid kit and warning triangle.
7.2 Install carpet lining in right seat area and install A-pillar trim on lower right.
7.3 Install inner door entry trim and front right seat frame.
7.4 Install car radio or PCM.
7.5 Install cover for the right fuse box.
7.6 Install glove compartment and cover under the instrument panel on passenger's side.
7.8 Connect the battery.
7.9 Program CD changer with PST2.
Possible equipment versions of vehicles with "CD Changer Preparation" (I No. 7A1): see Figure 012/013 shown. The installation consists of the OW and the electric wiring harness (CD changer power supply) up until the CD changer installation position.

Vehicle with radio/PCM (Item A) and function-less OW ring (Item X); Retrofitting: CD changer
Version 6
Vehicle with PCM (Item A), telephone module (Item B), one function-less (Item Y) and one active OW ring: Retrofitting: Reconnect OW plugs to positions A and B CD changer
Version 7
Vehicle with radio/PCM (Item A), audio amplifier (Item C) and one active OW ring. Retrofitting: CD changer and OW (Item Z); Reconnect OW (Item Y)
Version 8
Vehicle with PCM (Item A) and telephone module (Item B), BOSE sound package (Item C) and one active OW ring. Retrofitting: CD changer and OW (Item Z): Reconnect OW (Item Y)
8. Only versions 5 - 8: preparatory work.
8.1 Remove first-aid kit and warning triangle and remove right side-panel lining for luggage compartment (Part ID 7003).
8.2 Only vehicles with BOSE sound package:
Remove audio amplifier with holder (Part ID 9160).
9. OW must be routed and connected for versions 5 to 8.
9.1 Version 5, Figure 012. Routing and connecting the OW to the radio/PCM is not necessary.
9.2 Version 6, Figure 012.
9.2.1 Remove front right seat frame (Part ID 7209) and PCM (Part ID 9110).
9.2.2 Disconnect old OW plug connection from PCM. Insert second enclosed OW plug in PCM.
9.2.3 Disconnect old OW plug connection from telephone module.
Insert second enclosed OW plug in telephone module.
9.2.4 Install front right seat frame and display and operator control unit (PCM).
9.3 Versions 7 and 8, Figure 013.
9.3.1 Install OW (parts list item M) from audio amplifier to CD changer installation position.
9.3.2 Remove optical contact (A, vehicle-side OW) from plug "Z" (Figure 014; top) and install in plug "Y" (Figure 014, bottom).
9.3.3 Install optical contact (E) from OW (parts list item M) in plug "Y" (parts list item N) and optical contact (A) in plug "Z".
10. Install CD changer. There are 2 possibilities: Vehicle without BOSE sound package. Vehicle with BOSE sound package.
10.1. Preparatory work.
10.1.1 Only vehicles with trailer coupling:
Unscrew screw (B) and set aside trailer coupling control unit (A).
10.1.2 Adjust CD changer to installation position.
Note:
The CD changer is adjusted for vertical installation at the factory. Since installation takes place in a horizontal position, adjusting the device must be performed manually in order to assure that CDs will be played optimally on uneven roads, as an example.
10.1.3 Loosen screw (A) and adjust installation position (H = horizontal, V = vertical) by sliding the screw.
10.1.4 Tighten adjusting screw.
10.1.5 Only vehicles without BOSE sound package: Insert M6 blind rivet nut into existing bores (A) in the side wall. Insert the M6 blind rivet nuts using the rivet gun. Insert snap nut into side wall (B).
10.2 Position holder on the CD changer and tighten with screws (arrows). Tightening torque: 6 Nm (4.5 ft-lb.)
10.3 Connect plug (Item A) and OW plug (Item B) to CD changer.
10.4 Insert CD changer with holder and fasten with screws (arrows). Tightening torque: 9 Nm (6.5 ft-lb.)
10.5 Only vehicles with BOSE sound package; Install CD changer on holder for audio amplifier (Part ID. 9160).
10.6 Only vehicles with trailer coupling: Position trailer coupling control module and fasten with screws.
10.7 Install right luggage compartment side-panel lining.
10.8 Store first-aid kit and warning triangle.
11. Concluding work.
11.1 Program CD changer with PST2.
11.1.1 Read out CD changer fault memory and erase.
11.1.2 Match the MOST required installed components list to the actual installed components list.
11.1.3 Check MOST components.
11.1.4 After programming is complete, read out the fault memory of all systems, correct any existing faults, and erase the fault memory.
