Installing Wiring Harness Tailgate

Installing wiring harness, left side of vehicle to lid hinge

1. Thread wiring harness out through pneumatic spring housing -arrow-. Push the plugs individually past the rear lid hinge.

2. Lay the ground strap in the narrow connector profile -Arrow A- and fasten with fabric tape.
3. Push a tie-wire through the pneumatic spring housing -Arrow B- and attach ground lead and connector to the wiring.
4. Draw tie-wire with wiring harness out through opening -Arrow B- until rubber sleeve -b- engages fully in opening in pneumatic spring housing -c-.

INFORMATION: The line must run over the pneumatic spring for the rear lid.

5. Push pink socket into socket support -Arrow A- until locking tabs -Arrows B- are felt to engage.
6. Insert ground strap into support -Arrow C-.
7. Close the support -Arrow D- until the locking tab -Arrow E- is felt to engage.

8. Press in support for socket -Arrow A- until locking tabs -Arrows B- are felt to engage.
9. Screw down both ground straps together with torsion protection -a- onto ground pin with fastening nut -Arrow 1-. - Tightening torque: 6.5 ftlb.

10. Insert pink connector -Arrow A- until the locking tabs -Arrows B- are felt to engage.
11. Apply adhesive sealant to edges -Arrows C- and press in styrofoam element -Arrow D- until it is felt to engage in the opening.

Installing wiring harness, left side of tailgate to lid hinge

1. Lay line in cable duct and push on cover -Arrow A- until locking tabs -Arrows B- are felt to engage.
2. Push cable duct with line onto rear lid hinge -Arrow C-.

3. Pull harness through window frame -Arrows A-.
4. Press rubber sleeve into window frame until it is felt to engage -Arrow B-.

INFORMATION: During removal, replace damaged clips with repair clips.

5. Clip wiring harness to window frame -Arrows C-.

INFORMATION: During removal, replace damaged clips with repair clips.

6. Clip in wiring harness -arrows-.

7. Tighten ground strap and torsion protection -a- to ground pin with fastening nut -Arrow 1-. - Tightening torque: 6.5 ftlb.

8. Push connector onto rear window wiper -Arrow A- until locking tabs are felt to engage.
9. Push connector onto lock lower part for rear window -Arrow C- until locking tabs -Arrows B- are felt to engage.
10. Push plug connection for contact switch together -Arrows D- until locking tab -Arrow E- is felt to engage.
11. Insert plug connection into support -Arrow F- and turn it until it is felt to engage in the clip -Arrow G-.

Installing wiring harness, right side of vehicle to lid hinge

1. Push wiring harness through to the rear from the inside -Arrow A-.

INFORMATION: The lead must run over the pneumatic spring.

2. Pull socket through pneumatic spring housing -Arrow B- until rubber sleeve is felt to engage -Arrow C-.

3. Push blue socket into socket support -Arrow A- until locking tabs -Arrows B- are felt to engage.

4. Press in support for socket -Arrow A- until locking tabs -Arrows B- are felt to engage.
5. Insert blue connector -Arrow C- until the locking tabs -Arrows D- are felt to engage.

6. Apply adhesive sealant to edges -Arrows B- and press in styrofoam element -Arrow A- until it is felt to engage in the opening.

Installing wiring harness, right side of tailgate to lid hinge

1. Position wiring harness in wiring duct and press in cover -Arrow A- until locking tabs -Arrows B- are felt to engage.
2. Push wiring harness with wiring duct onto rear lid hinge -Arrow C- until locking tabs -Arrows D- are felt to engage.

6. Press in wiring harness clips -Arrows A-.

INFORMATION: During removal, replace damaged clips with repair clips.

7. Press in wiring harness clips from the inside -Arrows B-.

8. Insert connector onto rear lid lock -Arrow A- until the locking tabs -Arrows B- are felt to engage.
9. Insert connector onto contact switch -Arrow C- until the locking tabs -Arrows D- are felt to engage.

Installing wiring harness for rear window, left

1. Push wire harness through along hinge -arrow A-.
2. Pull wire harness through the opening -arrows B- until the rubber sleeve -arrow C- is felt to engage in the pneumatic spring housing.

3. Push pink socket into socket support -arrow A- until locking tabs -arrows B- are felt to engage.
4. Insert ground strap into support -arrow C-.
5. Close the support -arrow D- until the locking tab -arrow E- is felt to engage.

6. Press in support for socket -arrow A- until locking tabs -arrows B- are felt to engage.
7. Screw down both ground straps together with torsion protection -a- onto ground pin using fastening nut -arrow 1-. - Tightening torque: 6.5 ftlb.

8. Insert pink connector -arrow A- until the locking tabs -arrows B- are felt to engage.

9. Push connectors into sockets of same colour -arrows A- until locking tabs -B- are felt to engage.
10. Press plug connections into the brackets -arrows C- until locking tabs are felt to engage -arrows D-.

11. Lay wire harness in wiring duct and push on cover -arrow A- until locking tabs -arrows B- are felt to engage.
12. Push wiring duct onto hinge -arrow C- until locking tabs are felt to engage.

13. Insert rubber sleeve into rear spoiler -arrow A-.
14. Position wire harness in rear spoiler and press onto Velcro strip segments to secure -arrow B-.

INFORMATION: Only for vehicles with telephone antenna.

15. Connect telephone antenna plug to the line -arrow A- until locking tabs of lock -arrows B- are felt to engage.

16. Push wire harness through under the right wire harness -arrow A-.
17. Push both connectors onto right antenna amplifier -arrows B- until locking tabs -arrow C- are felt to engage.

INFORMATION: When connecting plugs, observe colour marking -a- on antenna amplifier.

18. Push connector onto white connection -b- of right antenna amplifier -arrow D-.

19. Push connector through under the support -arrow A-.
20. Push the connector onto the GPS sensor -arrow B- until the locking tab -C- is felt to engage.
21. Screw down the GPS sensor with both fastening screws -arrows 3-.

Installing wiring harness for rear window, right

1. Tie water line and the individual lines together with fabric tape -A-.
2. Secure lines with fabric tape to the flat side -arrow B- of the combination plug.
3. Push wire harness along hinge through pneumatic spring housing -arrows C-.
4. Pull out wire harness in a downward direction -arrow D-. If necessary, push lead from the outside.

INFORMATION: When installing the wire harness, make sure the insulation of the line is not damaged.

5. Remove fabric tape and lay leads to the connection points.

6. Join up water line -arrows A- until it is felt to engage.
7. Insert lines and water line into support -arrow B-, then close support -arrow C- until locking tab -arrow D- is felt to engage.

8. Push socket into socket support -arrow B- until locking tabs -arrows A- are felt to engage.
9. Press in support for socket -arrow C- until locking tabs -arrows D- are felt to engage.

10. Insert connector -arrow A- until locking tabs -arrows B- are felt to engage.

11. Connect both plug connections -arrows A- until locking tabs -arrows B- are felt to engage.
12. Press plug connections into support -arrows C- until locking tabs are felt to engage -arrows D-.

13. Screw down ground strap together with twist lock -a- to ground pin -arrow 1-.
14. Pull in rubber sleeve -arrow A- until it is felt to engage in opening -arrow B-.

15. Apply adhesive sealant to edges -arrows A- and press in Styrofoam element -arrow B- until it is felt to engage in the opening.

16. Press rubber sleeve into rear spoiler -arrow A-
17. Position wire harness in rear spoiler and press onto Velcro strip segments -arrows B-.

18. Lay wire harness in wiring duct and push on cover -arrow A- until locking tabs -arrows B- are felt to engage.
19. Push wiring duct onto hinge -arrow C- until locking tabs are felt to engage.

20. Insert antenna plug -arrow A- until locking mechanism -arrow B- is felt to engage.
21. Connect red line to B+ connection of right antenna amplifier -arrow C-.
22. Tighten ground strap with fastening screw -arrow 2-.

23. Push plug connection together -arrows A- until the locking lug -arrow B- is felt to engage.
24. Push Styrofoam element over plug connection -arrow C-.

25. Connect water line to windscreen washer nozzle -arrow A- until it is felt to engage.
26. Attach plug onto brake light -arrow B- until locking tab -arrow C- is felt to engage.
27. Connect plug connections -arrows D- until locking tabs -arrow E- are felt to engage.

Subsequent work
1. Install D-pillar trim.
2. Install headliner.
3. Install number plate light.
4. Install release for rear lid.
5. Install side panel on rear lid.
6. Install antenna amplifier.
