WM 465019 Removing and installing front brake discRemoving front brake disc
Warning
Risk of accidents if brake pads and/or brake discs are not replaced in time.
^ Danger of injury and damage to vehicle if braking effect is impaired.
--> The brake pads must be replaced when the brake pad warning indicator lights up, but no later than when there is a residual pad thickness of 2 mm.
Caution
Increased risk of damage to brake discs when mounting/removing wheels.
^ The brake discs can be damaged.
--> Use assembly aid (assembly pins) in order to exclude any possibility of heavy contact of the wheel with the brake disc.
Information
^ In order to gain better access for removal of the brake caliper, it is beneficial to turn the wheels fully either to the right or the left.
1. Remove wheel.
2. Use the piston resetting fixture Nr.144 to push brake pads back slightly and uniformly -direction arrow-. Make sure that no brake fluid runs out of the supply tank - drain it if necessary.
Pushing back brake pad
3. Loosen brake hose bracket at the wheel carrier.
Open combination plug connection at the wheel carrier and disconnect connector for brake-pad wear indicator.
4. Remove brake caliper at the wheel carrier and hang it in a suitable place in the wheel well. Do not open the brake hydraulic system!
5. Remove brake disc after unscrewing the fastening screws. If necessary, remove the brake disc by tapping it gently with a rubber hammer.
Installing front brake disc
Do not confuse right and left brake discs during assembly!
Distinguishing feature: Part number and identification! The flat surface of the brake discs is marked with R = right or L = left.
1. Check that all parts are in perfect condition and replace them if necessary.
2. Clean the levelling and centering surfaces on the brake disc and wheel hub. Then apply a very thin coat of Optimoly TA to the centering surface on the wheel hub.
3. Fit the brake disc. Observe correct tightening torque.
4. Fit the brake caliper. Replace the brake caliper fastening screws following removal. Observe correct tightening torque.
5. Fit brake hose bracket at the wheel carrier. Observe correct tightening torque.
Plug in connector for brake-pad wear indicator at the combination plug connection and secure in place with a safety clip.
6. Position disc brake pads by operating the brake several times.
7. Check brake fluid level and correct it if necessary. The brake fluid level must be between the MAX-MIN marking.
