Crankcase
CrankcaseThe crankcase concept, featuring a high level of component integration, separate crankshaft bearing with cast-in cast iron elements and Lokasil cylinder barrels, has been adopted from the 911 Carrera. In order to reduce horsepower loss caused by compression of the air below the piston during downward movement, air passages (see arrow) have been incorporated between the individual cylinders.
In order to attain a displacement of 3.4 liters, the 96 mm bore of the engine from the 911 Carrera has been combined with the 78 mm stroke of the engine from the Cayman S. This results in an extremely short stroke, which is conducive to true sports car performance.
