Vehicle Type:
Boxster (987)/Boxster S (987)
Model Year:
As of 2005
Situation:
Retrofitting
NOTE:
The vehicle specified above comes with a CD autochanger preparation (I No. 689) as standard. This includes the following components:
- optical waveguide connection point (at the front panel in the luggage compartment) and
- power supply line (at the front panel in the middle or right of the luggage compartment behind the trim panel)
This means that the CD autochanger can be retrofitted without any great expense.
Before ordering parts, always check and consider the existing vehicle equipment. The appropriate optical waveguide must also be ordered for the "CDC-4 CD autochanger" set.
The optical waveguide depends on:
- Equipment variant [e.g. BOSE sound system (I No. 680), PCM2 Navigation (I No. 670), PCM2 Navigation Offroad (I No. 672)]
For vehicles with brake booster lining, the plastic luggage compartment trim panel (997.551.133.00.02A) can also be retrofitted upon request.

ATTENTION
Damage to audio systems
- due to voltage spikes
--> Before unplugging/removing an audio system, remove ignition key and switch off the audio system.
Work Procedure:
1. Preparatory work.
1.1 Remove luggage compartment cover. --> Workshop Manual 703019 Removing and installing luggage compartment cover - section on "Removing"'
1.2 ONLY for vehicles with Tire Pressure Monitoring control unit:
Remove fastening screw on Tire Pressure Monitoring control unit and lay control unit to one side. --> Workshop Manual '443419 Removing and installing Tire Pressure Monitoring control unit -section on "Removing"'
1.3 ONLY for vehicles with luggage compartment cooling:
Remove air guide from front panel.
ATTENTION
The optical waveguide can become damaged due to incorrect installation or if the requirements for handling optical waveguides are not followed.
--> Observe the requirements for working with optical waveguides --> Workshop Manual '977211V Optical waveguide - MOST bus'
2. Install optical waveguide.
2.1 Remove connection point holder.
2.1.1 ONLY for vehicles with optical waveguide component (navigation unit and/or amplifier) in the luggage compartment:
Disconnect optical waveguide connection point --> Figure 4-B- in the front luggage compartment.
2.1.2 Remove connection point holder --> Figure 4-A- from plenum panel using needle-nose pliers.
2.2 ONLY for vehicles without optical waveguide component in the luggage compartment:
2.2.1 Pull off protection cap --> Figure 5-A- on optical waveguide.
2.2.2 Route optical waveguide from the connection point --> Figure 6-A- along the plenum panel to the CD autochanger installation position --> Figure 6-B- and secure at this position.
2.3 ONLY for vehicles with optical waveguide component:
Route optical waveguide from optical waveguide connection point --> Figure 6-A- along the plenum panel to the CD autochanger installation position --> Figure 6-B- and to the amplifier --> Figure 6-C-and secure at this position.
NOTE: If the connection point holder is damaged during removal, use a new connection point holder (see scope of parts). Then push the plug socket into the new connection point holder.
2.4 Fasten connection point holder to the front panel and connect optical waveguide connection point.
2.5 ONLY for vehicles with optical waveguide component:
Secure the standard optical waveguide as a permanent fixture. This remains functionless in the vehicle.
3. Expose the electric wire (power supply) between the carpet lining and front panel.
4. Install CD autochanger '916019 Removing and installing CD autochanger section on "Installing"
4.1 Adjust CD autochanger to installation position.
4.1.1 Loosen adjusting screws --> Figure 7.
4.1.2 Adjust installation position (horizontal) by moving the adjusting screws.
4.1.3 Tighten adjusting screws.
4.2 ONLY for USA vehicles:
4.2.1 Clip in speed nuts -->Figure 8-E-
4.2.2 Clip insert mounting --> Figure 9-D- into CD autochanger retaining frame.
4.2.3 Insert CD autochanger into CD autochanger retaining frame and tighten fastening screws. Figure 9-G-.
Tightening torque 2.5 Nm (2.0 ftlb.)
NOTE: Ensure that the insert mounting is seated correctly in the front panel.
4.2.4 Guide CD autochanger retaining frame with insert mountings --> Figure 10-B- into the front panel from above --> Figure 10-Lupe- and swivel it downwards,
Secure CD autochanger retaining frame with two screws --> Figure 10-A-.
NOTE: Figure 13 shows the connectors (Items A, B and E) for the RoW version of the navigation unit (CD changer and navigation unit arranged one on top of the other).
4.3 Plug electric connectors --> Figure 13 -C- and optical Figure 13 -D- into the CD autochanger until they are felt to engage.
NOTE: Figure 14 shows the RoW version of the audio components (CD changer and navigation unit arranged one on top of the other).
4.4 Position CD autochanger with support onto the mounting point and push it towards the front panel until the CD autochanger support clicks into place.
