Removing vehicle electrical system control unit
WARNING:
Risk of damage to electronic control modules.
- If care is not taken, electrical and electronic components may be destroyed.
- Before removing the control module, switch off the ignition and remove the ignition key.
1. Pull apart the locking tabs -A- for the vehicle electrical system control unit, pull the control unit forward and down with connectors still attached then pull it out of its holder at the rear.
2. Release both electrical connectors -A- and unplug them.
3. Take out the control unit.
Installing vehicle electrical system control unit
1. Press electrical plugs into control unit and lock them -arrow- so they are felt to engage.
2. Push vehicle electrical system control unit upwards into the holder. It must engage properly. Make sure the electrical leads are not pinched.

Programming the vehicle electrical system control unit:
Reading out and printing out values
WARNING:
Sudden voltage interruption of the power supply to the control module.
- Destruction of the control module.
- During programming, it is essential to guarantee the power supply for the Porsche System tester. It is essential to connect a battery charger with a current rating of at least 40 A to the vehicle battery.
- Prior to disconnecting the control module, switch off the ignition and remove the ignition key.
INFORMATION:
- Follow the instructions on the Tester.
- Later versions of the software may display slightly different text or require a slightly different procedure. The instructions you receive from the tester itself take precedence over this description.
1. Connect the Porsche System Tester to the vehicle and start the System Tester. Switch on the ignition. >> Continue.
2. Select vehicle type using the cursor keys.
3. Switch from vehicle type to list of control units >>.
4. Select the relevant control unit with the cursor keys and press the >> key.
5. Select Control Unit Replacement with the cursor keys and press the >> key.
6. Select Read Out Values (Code) with the cursor keys and press the >> key.
7. The message "Reading code" will appear on the screen of the Porsche System Tester. Press the >> key.
8. Switch off ignition and replace control unit.
9. Switch on ignition. After replacement of the control unit, the vehicle data that has been read out is transferred to the new unit using the "Write data" menu option (see Section 6). Press the >> key.
10. System Tester displays Coding write-in complete. Press the >> key.
11. Read out fault memory again and erase.
Coding (programming) the control module
INFORMATION: The procedure described must be applied when a control unit has to be replaced and the tester function Control unit replacement cannot be used.

3. Using the >> key, move from the vehicle type to the list of control modules. Perform the automatic control module search.
4. Select the relevant control module with the cursor keys and press the >> key.
5. Select Control unit replacement with the cursor keys and press the >> key.
6. Select Write in data and write in the relevant data. (Even if no data was read out, the required data is loaded for the control unit.)
7. Select Coding with the cursor keys and press the >> key.
8. Select the version required for the vehicle in question and follow the instructions on the Tester.
9. In the menu Vehicle type, select Control units and then select the menu Special functions.
10. Perform Vehicle handover and follow the instructions of the Tester.
11. Read out and erase fault memory.
