In contrast to the previous 911 Carrera (996) model, the 911 Carrera/S (997) features automatic climate control with a combined interior air filter (active carbon and pollen) as standard. The automatic climate control used in the 911 Carrera/S (997) is a further development of the previous system. It was revised to ensure more even and more comfortable ventilation of the passenger area and to improve the user-friendliness of all air conditioning functions.

The advantages of the new air conditioning system:
- Ensures more even ventilation of the passenger area
- Is considerably less prone to drafts
- Is quieter
- Offers increased functionality.

The air conditioning system employs a CFC-free refrigerant. In order to ensure an adequate supply of electrical energy (taking additional consumers into consideration), the employed 70 Ah battery is more powerful than its predecessor and has been weight-optimized.
