Information
In May 2008, Production introduced modifications to several components of the hood. => Spare parts requirements for modified hood
When replacing the hood covering, the folding aid at the side (cord) -arrow- must be reworked and changed on vehicles manufactured on or after the specified date of introduction.

You will need the => assembly kit (987.561.933.00) to do this.
Take the following spare parts from the assembly kit:

Information
- Always replace the spare parts contained in the "convertible-top covering" scope of parts!
- The convertible-top covering must be replaced at a room temperature of at least 15 degrees Celsius (59 Fahrenheit)!
Date of introduction

2. Remove seal for hood compartment lid. -> 619319 Removing and installing seal for lid - section on "Removing" Service and Repair
3. Remove roof liner. -> 610919 Removing and installing roof liner - section on "Removing" Hardtop
4. Leave hood open by - X= 50 cm-.

Information
Two persons are needed to disengage and engage the convertible top mechanism!

Two persons are needed to disengage and engage the convertible top mechanism!
1. Press ball socket of push rod -6- off the ball head of the main folding top bow.

2. Carefully remove the hood by hand to the rear.

1. Unscrew side fastening screws -1- using assembly tool with T25 insert 9744 from the tension cable -2- and clamping rail -3-.

2. Carefully move hood forward by hand until the hood frame is touching the windscreen frame.
3. At the front of the B-pillar (main folding top bow), unscrew the fastening screw -1- and swing the clamping rail -2- upwards.

1. Move the hood to its original position and press ball socket of push rod -6- onto ball head of main folding top bow.

1. Unscrew fastening screws -1- and remove cover strip -2- from roof frame -3-.

The seal on the roof frame is in two parts.
1. Pull off lower lateral seal -1- out of the profile of the retaining strip -2-.

2. Unscrew fastening screws -3- at front of roof frame.
3. Unscrew fastening screws -1- from the retaining strip -2-. Pull off seal for hood tip -3-.

4. Remove additional seal -4-.

1. Unscrew fastening screws -1- from roof frame, and gently lift shaped metal part together with hood covering -2-.

1. Loosen Velcro fastener on inside -1- of hood covering -2-.

2. Loosen hood covering at front on roof frame and lay it down to the rear.

Information
Do not pull out the fold placer.
1. Unscrew fastening screws -1- on the folding mechanism -2- at the left and right.

Information
The cord can only be detached near the tab on the hood covering.
- Always proceed as follows:
1. Mark the cord -1- at dimension -X= 60 mm- on the tab -2-.

1. Unscrew fastening screws -1- with washer -2-. Pull out inlet aid -3A- and tightening strip -3B-.

NOTICE
Electric plug connection for rear window not disconnected or connected correctly
- Connector can break or become detached
-> Carefully pull off and connect plug coupling.
1. Carefully disconnect plug connection -2- on left and right from the connector -1- at the rear window.

1. Pull headliner -1- out of the groove of the tension bow -2-.

1. Unscrew hood covering end piece -1- from rear of tension bow -2-.

1. Press expanding pin of expansion rivet -1- out of the main folding top bow -arrow A- from the inside.

2. Pull out slide -2- from main folding top bow -arrow B- , disengage cord -3- ( -arrow C- ) and remove through the loop -arrow D-.

Information
- Always replace the spare parts contained in the "convertible-top covering" scope of parts.
1. All pins and screw joints must be checked for tightness before the hood covering is installed. -> 613055 Replacing hood frame 613055 Replacing hood frame
2. Measure the centre between the restraining straps and mark it on the tension bow.
3. Replace the tension strap. -> 613055 Replacing hood frame - section on "Replacing" 613055 Replacing hood frame
4. Prepare folding aid at the side (cord) for installation.
4.1. Fit shrink-fit hose -2- on the cord -1-.

4.2. Take the cord you cut off and make a loop at the mark -X-. The mark should be centred at the top of the loop.
4.3. Knot the short cord (spare part) -1- to the loop -2- to form a loop in the shape of an eight and tighten it.

4.4. Tie a knot on the loop using the rest of the cord. Cut off the rest (approx. 5 mm) and melt the end of the cord with a cigarette lighter.

4.5. Slide the shrink-fit hose -4- over the knot -3- , the "figure 8-shaped loop" -2- and the short cord -1- and shrink it.

5. Pull the clamping rail -3- into the pull strip -1- for the hood covering -2- in direction of arrow.

6. Fold the clamping rail -3- inwards. Position the fastening screw -4- on the hood covering -2- and screw in by hand by about 4 turns.
7. Pull the slide -1- into the pull strip -2- for the hood covering in direction of arrow.

Information
Make sure that the side of the shaped sheetmetal part does not scratch the styling edge.
1. Lay hood covering on the hood frame.

2. Lay fold placer -2- over the push rod -3- , position on hood frame and tighten with the fastening screw -1-. Tightening torque => Tightening torque: 1.8 Nm (1.5 ftlb.)

1. Lay the hood covering -2- to the front and guide the shaped sheetmetal part into the roof frame from above.

2. Fasten the hood covering -2- with the fastening screws -1- , starting from the front bottom side of the roof frame. Tightening torque => Tightening torque : 3.5 Nm (2.5 ftlb.)

A self-adhesive strip is affixed to the front of the hood covering.
Information
There must be no bubbles, especially in the area of the lap seam. If necessary, re-tighten convertible top covering with pliers.
1. Pull the protective paper off the adhesive tape and fold the hood covering around the roof frame into the groove without wrinkles.
