WM 945349 Eliminating symptoms on body exterior - Reworking side direction indicators (direction indicators/position lights stop working)

Symptom

Side direction indicators/position lights stop working at times.

Causes and remedial action
Cause
A defective bulb socket can cause the side direction indicators/position lights to stop working.Remedial action
Check the side direction indicators/position lights and replace the defective bulb sockets if necessary.

Reworking direction indicator lights

1. Check side direction indicator/position light on the left in direction of travel.
1.1. Remove side direction indicator/position light from the front apron -> 94531900 Removing and installing side direction indicator light - section on "Removing" 94531900 Removing and installing side direction indicator light, but do not remove the bulb from the socket.
1.2. Check that the bulb ( -item 1- ) is seated correctly on the bulb socket as shown in -top- ( -item 2 - ).
If the bulb is seated correctly on the bulb socket and the electric contacts are not bent ( -top- ) => Continue with Step 1.3 and reinstall the side direction indicator/position light.

If the electric contact is pushed out of the side of the bulb socket as shown ( -arrow A- ) or if it is bent ( -arrow B- ), replace the bulb socket, Part No. 997.631.133.00, and insert the bulb into the new bulb socket.
Use a cloth or soft paper when removing and fitting the bulb.
Then continue with Step 1.3 and install the side direction indicator/position lights.
1.3. Install the side direction indicator/position light by first connecting the electric plug connection at the bulb socket.
Once you have connected the electric plug connection, check the bulb again to make sure it is seated correctly on the bulb socket as shown in -top-.
Then screw the bulb socket and bulb as well as the connected line into the housing and install the side direction indicator/position light as described in the repair information -> 94531900 Removing and installing side direction indicator light - section on "Installing" 94531900 Removing and installing side direction indicator light.
2. Check the side direction indicator/position light on the right in direction of travel by completing Steps 1.1 to 1.3 on the right direction indicator/position light.
3. Check the function of the side direction indicators/position lights.
