Cooling System - Coolant Reservoir Breather Update
Service31/08 ENU 1944
Coolant System: Breather Hose With Restrictor
Vehicle Type:
Boxster (987)/Boxster S (987)
Cayman/Cayman S
Model Year:
2008
Concerns:
Breather hose between reservoir and heat exchanger
(engine M97.20/M97.21 and M97.22)
Information:
Restrictor in coolant reservoir no longer used.
To facilitate faster filling of the cooling system, the restrictor in the coolant reservoir is no longer used.
The restrictor is fitted in the breather hose as of the engine numbers specified below.
Information
If the engine in a vehicle is replaced with a replacement or reconditioned engine, the coolant breather hose between the coolant reservoir and oil/water heat exchanger must remain installed on the vehicle.
It is important to ensure that the engine is not run without a restrictor or with two restrictors (in the reservoir and breather hose).
Date of Introduction:
18.03.2008, as of engine numbers:
M97.20 65 8 09314
M97.21 67 8 08488
M97.22 66 8 01493
Work Procedure:
1. The breather hose must be removed at the heat exchanger (--> Figure 1-item A-) after the engine is removed from the vehicle.
2. The removed breather hose must be reinstall on the new engine (replacement or reconditioned engine), which will be installed in the vehicle.
If the new engine comes pre-fitted with a breather hose, this must be replaced with the removed breather hose from the original engine.
Repairs:
Information
If the coolant reservoir is replaced in the course of repairs on a vehicle with an engine that was manufactured before the engine numbers specified above, the coolant breather hose must also be replaced with the new breather hose with restrictor.
