Preliminary work

1. Remove engine-compartment lid. -> 557819 Removing and installing engine compartment lid - section on "Removing" 557819 Removing and Installing Engine Compartment Lid
2. Fix the engine in the installation position using safety device 10-222 A at the engine lifting bracket.

3. Raise the vehicle at the prescribed jacking points. -> 400000 Lifting the vehicle
4. Remove support plate. -> 421419 Removing and installing support plate - section on "Removing" 42141900 Removing and installing support plate
5. Remove multi-functional switch. -> 373119 Removing and installing multi-functional switch - section on "Removing" 37311900 Removing and installing multi-functional switch

Removing sealing ring for selector shaft

1. Disengage push rod from ball head on selector lever.

2. Drive out roll pin and pull selector lever off selector shaft.

3. Pierce sealing ring with a small screwdriver and lever it out.

Installing sealing ring for selector shaft

1. Thinly coat sealing lip and outer circumference of sealing ring with Vaseline.

With open side of sealing ring facing transmission, tap sealing ring as far as it will go into the transmission using a mandrel 3385.

2. Attach selector lever to selector shaft and tap in roll pin.

3. Engage push rod in ball head on selector lever.

Subsequent work

1. Install multi-functional switch. -> 373119 Removing and installing multi-functional switch - section on "Installing" 37311900 Removing and installing multi-functional switch
2. Install support plate. -> 421419 Removing and installing support plate - section on "installing" 42141900 Removing and installing support plate
3. Lower the vehicle.
4. Remove safety device 10-222 A.
