Symptom
Front ParkAssist warning signal sounds when there is no obstacle in the way at a speed of < 16 km/h (< 10 mph).

Causes and remedial action

Causes
- The isolating ring on the sensor for ParkAssist is damaged (deformed) or not fitted correctly.
- Replacement sensors in the dealer organisation are painted fully or are not painted correctly.

Remedial action
In the event of a complaint, correct the malfunction in accordance with the procedure described below and replace defective components.

Procedure For Correcting Front ParkAssist Malfunction

Correcting causes of fault on sensor for ParkAssist
1. Perform a visual inspection of all sensors.

INFORMATION:
Possible fault entry in the fault memory due to environmental conditions:
- A fault can occur if the sensors are heavily soiled or iced-up, for example.

1.1. If sensors are heavily soiled or iced-up: Clean the surface of the sensors using suitable cleaning agent. Continue (Step 2)
1.2. If this is OK: (Step 2)

2. Check sensors for faults using the PIWIS Tester.







INFORMATION:
- During the system test, it is essential to guarantee the power supply for the PIWIS Tester using a battery charger (with a current rating of at least 40 A).
- The PIWIS Tester instructions take precedence and in the event of a discrepancy, these are the instructions that must be followed (deviations can occur with higher software versions for example).

2.1. Connect the PIWIS Tester to the vehicle and start the Tester. Switch on the ignition and press >> to continue.
2.2. Select - 'Vehicle type'.
2.3. Press (| to switch to - 'Control units'. Perform an automatic control unit search.
2.4. Select - 'ParkAssist' and confirm your selection by pressing >>.
2.5. Select - 'Fault memory' and confirm your selection by pressing >>.
2.6. >> must then be pressed before selecting - 'Extended fault memory'.
2.7. Evaluate the fault type in the extended fault memory.

3. Remove the problematic sensor.

CAUTION:
Incorrect handling of sensor
- Sensor malfunction
- Risk of squashing
- Repainting of sensors is not permitted.
- Replace the sensor if the paint is damaged.
- Follow guidelines for painting sensor for ParkAssist.







4. Visually check the removed sensor -1- and isolating ring -2-.
4.1. If the isolating ring -2- is not OK (= deformed): Replace the isolating ring.
4.2. If the isolating ring is OK: Install a new sensor.

5. Erase the fault memory.
5.1. Select - 'Erase fault memory' and confirm by pressing >>.

6. Disconnect the PIWIS Tester from the vehicle and carry out a test drive. End of remedial action.
