PCM2.1 - Navigation Update


NOTE:
If the menu item is cancelled unintentionally, remove the navigation DVD and insert it again. The PCM2.1 automatically returns to the Update menu.

NOTE:
The navigation update for model year (MY) 08 comprises the PCM2.1 Multimedia Update CD Cayenne, the PCM2.1 Multimedia Update CD Navigation and the DVD containing maps. For 1st generation Cayenne vehicles MY 2005-06 refer to Technical Bulletin, Group 9, # 9/05, dated September 7, 2005 for additional information.

To use the navigation DVD (labelled 08.2007 or higher), which is valid as of Model Level B, in equipment configured with Model Level A software, a software update of the PCM2.1 integrated system must be performed using the update CD "PCM2.1 Multimedia Update CD Cayenne" (software version 05024xxx). In the case of PCM2.1 systems with the standard software version (04035xx), the Model Level A software version (04202xxx) must first be installed.

If the PCM2.1 is configured with software version C/C1, only the maps need to be updated. For information on selecting the corresponding steps, see Step 2.3.

For vehicles with the standard software version or Model Level A software, the following new functions will be available after the Model Level B software version is installed:

- Electronic logbook in PCM2.1

- Off-road navigation: Using the selection item "Drive trace" ("Trace" means a plot of points during the trip), there is the option of driving to or back to one of the 5 plotted traces

Additional new features can be found in the Owner's Manual or Quick Reference Guide for the PCM2.1 as of model year 2006.

Opening of the DVD package and insertion of the navigation DVD implies acceptance of the terms of the license.

To ensure that the PCM2.1 integrated system and navigation software are updated correctly, the updates must only be performed by an authorized Porsche dealer.

ATTENTION:
Malfunctions in the PCM2.1 system network due to open circuit when loading data.

- If an open circuit occurs due to power loss while loading data, malfunctions can occur in the PCM2.1 system network.
--> Connect battery charger or run the engine

WARNING:
Danger of carbon monoxide poisoning from working with the engine running.

--> Only run the engine if the exhaust extraction system is switched on.

Work Procedure:

1. Preparatory work

1.1 Connect battery charger. --> Workshop Manual '2X00IN01 Battery trickle charging'

1.2 Switch on ignition

1.3 Switch on PCM2.1 by pressing the "On/Off" switch --> Figure 1 -A-.

1.4 Open the drawer for the telephone card --> Figure 1 -B-, remove the telephone card if there is one there and close the drawer again.

1.5 Press the Eject button --> Figure 1 -C- and remove CD from the CD slot --> Figure 1 -D-, if one was inserted.





2. Show current software version of PCM2.1 in the display.

2.1 Press the "MAIN" and "TRIP" buttons --> Figure 1 -E and F- simultaneously to go to the "SW version" display.

2.2 Select "PCM" in the menu by turning the rotary knob --> Figure 1 -G- and press the knob to confirm your selection.

2.2.1 The relevant software version of the PCM2.1 will be displayed:

Standard version: 04035xxx
Model Level A: 04202xxx
Model Level B: 05024xxx
Model Level C: 05395xxx
Model Level C1: 06324xxx

2.3 Select the steps to be completed.

2.3.1 If the display shows the standard version (04035xxx), PCM2.1 must first be updated to Model Level A software version (04202xxx), --> Technical Information '911000 PCM2.1: Spare parts requirements of BOSE amplifier', Step "Updating PCM2.1 to Model Level A software (software version 04202xxx)".

Then complete Steps 3, 4 and 5.

2.3.2 If the display shows Model Level A (04202xxx), PCM2.1 must be updated to Model Level B software version (05024xxx). To do this, complete Steps 3, 4 and 5.

2.3.3 If the display shows Model Level B (05024xxx), Model Level C (05395xxx) of Model Level C1 (06324xxx), only the navigation module needs to be updated. To do this, complete Steps 4 and 5.

3. Update PCM2.1 to Model Level B software (Software version 05024xxx).

3.1 Switch on ignition.

If a battery charger is not connected, leave the engine running.

3.2 Insert the PCM2.1 update CD Model Level B (Part No. 000.043.205.47.002) into the CD slot --> Figure 1 -D-. The software update starts automatically.

3.3 The following message appears in the PCM2.1 display:

"Updating software to Model Level B version"

Press the rotary knob --> Figure 1 -G- to confirm the "Yes" option.

3.4 The following message appears in the PCM2.1 display:

"Important, After this update, a new navigation DVD will be necessary. Do you want to update?"

Press the rotary knob to confirm the selection "Yes" and to start the update.

NOTE:
A Software update updates the telephone control unit software as well as the PCM2.1 control module software. A bar showing the progress of the loading operation is displayed for each update step.

3.5 Depending on the vehicle equipment and the telephone, the following appears in the PCM2.1 display:

3.5.1 For vehicles without a telephone or with Motorola telephone:

"Updating system software."
"Device 1 of 2."
"Updating to version R30."
"Status OK."

"Updating PCM."
"Device 2 of 2."
"Updating to version R02."
"Status OK."

3.5.2 For Vehicles with Harman/Becker telephone:

"Updating telephone."
"Device 1 of 3."
"Updating to version V5.03.4."
"Status OK."

"Updating system software."
"Device 2 of 3."
"Updating to version R30."
"Status OK."

"Updating PCM."
"Device 3 of 3."
"Updating to version R02."
"Status OK."

NOTE:
A brief message appears indicating a successful update, then the PCM2.1 switches off and on again automatically.

3.6 If the PCM2.1 does not switch on again automatically, switch on the PCM2.1 again by pressing the "On/Off" switch --> Figure 1 -A-.

3.7 Press the Eject button --> Figure 1 -C- and remove the update CD from the CD slot --> Figure 1 -D-.

4 Update navigation system.

4.1 Remove the previously used navigation DVD from the navigation module under the passenger's seat.

4.2 Insert the PCM2.1 Multimedia Update CD Navigation (000.044.901.40) into the navigation module.

4.3 Switch off ignition and wait for 2 to 3 minutes.

4.4 Switch on ignition.

If there is no battery charger connected, leave the engine running.

NOTE:
If it does not start automatically, press the "NAVI" button on the PCM2.1.

4.5 Switch on PCM2.1.

4.6 The PCM2.1 screen displays the message:

"Do you want to update the navigation software?" Select "Yes" to confirm.

The PCM2.1 screen displays the message:

"New navigation DVD will be needed following update". Select "Yes" to confirm.

NOTE:
The Progress bar disappears once it reaches 10%. The display then remains at 0%.

4.7 The navigation update starts.

After about 30 seconds, the PCM2.1 screen displays the message:

"Error starting navigation".

4.8 Remove the PCM2.1 Multimedia Update CD Navigation from the navigation module.

NOTE:
After updating the PCM2.1 integrated system to Model Level software, only the new navigation DVDs can be used.

4.9 Insert new navigation DVD (labelled 08.2007 or higher) into the navigation module.

The following message appears in the PCM2.1 display:

"Starting navigation system".

5 Concluding work

5.1 Insert the audio CD into the CD slot of the PCM2.1 operator control unit again.

5.2 Insert the telephone card into the drawer of the PCM2.1 operator control unit again.

5.3 Switch off the ignition.
