Removing air cleaner housing

INFORMATION:
- Use only warm water with washing-up liquid to clean the air cleaner housing.
- Harsh cleaning agents must not be used.

Component overview







3.8-litre engine only:







Line for tuning flaps on air cleaner housing.

1. Pull off cable plug for hot-film mass air flow sensor -1-.







1.1. Loosen screw-type clamp -2- on the throttle housing.







2. Unclip cable -1- from guide on air cleaner housing -arrows-.
3. Pull rubber sleeve off the throttle housing.

3.8-litre engine only:







4. Lift air filter up slightly and pull off cable plug -2- and vacuum line -1- on solenoid valve for tuning flap.

INFORMATION: Note rubber sleeves for fastening the air cleaner housing in place.







5. Pull air cleaner housing up out of the guides and lift it out of the engine compartment.

Disassembling and assembling air cleaner housing

3.8-litre air filter only:







1. Pull off vacuum line on solenoid valve for tuning flap -1-.

3.8-litre and 3.6-litre air filter:







2. Unscrew eight Torx tapping screws (T25 screw insert) -1- on the upper part of the air filter.







3. Lift off upper part -1-.







4. Unscrew one Torx tapping screw (T20 screw insert) -1- on each air-cleaner element and pull out the element.

3.8-litre air filter only:
5. Remove tuning flaps -2-.







5.1. Unscrew two Torx tapping screws (T25 screw insert) -1- and unclip flaps -arrows-.

6. Assemble in reverse order.
Tightening torque: 2 Nm (1.5 ftlb.)
Tightening torque: 3 Nm (2 ftlb.)
Tightening torque: 2 Nm (1.5 ftlb.)

Installing air cleaner housing
1. Lightly coat the position support on the lower part of the air cleaner housing with Vaseline or acid-free grease.







1.1. Lift air cleaner housing into the engine compartment and secure it.

2. Fit rubber sleeve on the throttle housing and tighten the screw-type clamp -2-.
Tightening torque: 2.5 Nm (2.0 ftlb.)

2.1. Connect cable plug for hot-film mass air flow sensor -3-.







2.2. Clip in cable at the housing -arrows-.

3. Connect cable plug -2- and vacuum line -1- on the solenoid valve for the tuning flap.
