A/T - PDK Transmission/Control Unit Information
Spare Parts Requirements: PDK Control Unit (FIB process) and PDK TransmissionVehicle Type:
911 Carrera (997)/911 Carrera S (997)
Model Year:
2009
Equipment:
Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) (l-no. 250)
Concerns:
Porsche Doppelkupplung (referred to below as "PDK"):
- Ordering process for control unit and transmission.
Information:
Spare parts requirements...
- PDK control unit
- PDK transmission
Until further notice, the following procedure shall apply for spare parts requirements for a PDK control unit or PDK transmission. You will be informed when this procedure is no longer valid.
The replaced parts - together with the corresponding Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL) - must be returned using normal warranty parts return procedures. --> Technical Information '033500 Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL)'.
1 Spare parts requirements for PDK control unit(FIB process)
Transmission-specific data from the PDK transmission installed in the vehicle is stored in the control unit. This data enables and ensures optimal operation of the transmission.
CAUTION
Risk of transmission damage if an incorrect PDK control unit is installed.
- If a control unit that is not intended for use with the PDK transmission is installed, this can damage the transmission. Damages caused by the use/installation of a improperly matched (coded) control unit will not be covered under warranty.
- Use the correct control unit for the transmission.
The vehicle-specific ordering process (FIB process from the German Fahrzeug-Individual-Bestell process) described here ensures until further notice that the individual transmission data is assigned to the corresponding control unit in the event of spare parts requirements for the control unit.
1.1 Before ordering: enter and check data.
Depending on which ordering system you are using to complete the control unit ordering process - POLARIS or @ PARTS or K0317 (PRMS), relevant information must be entered in order to handle the ordering process.
Enter and check the following data:
- Vehicle identification number
- Transmission number (--> Figure 1 -arrow-). Position the vehicle on a lifting platform in order to read off the transmission number. Remove the underbody panelling (right transmission area) and read off the 13-digit transmission number (--> Figure 2-A-).
- Transmission code number = the last 8 digits of the transmission number (--> Figure 2-B-)
- Current control unit part number from PET
1.1.1 FIB process using POLARIS
Entries in the text boxes ...
"Closing code": Transmission code number (= last 8 digits of the transmission number/--> Figure 2 -B-)
"VIN": Vehicle identification number
1.1.2 FIB process using @PARTS
Enter the following in the "free-text box": Vehicle identification number and transmission code number. (= last 8 digits of the transmission number/--> Figure 2 -B-).
1.1.3 FIB process using K0317 (PRMS)
Enter the following in the "free-text box": Control unit part number, vehicle identification number and transmission code number (= last 8 digits of the transmission number/--> Figure 2 -B-).
1.2 Before installing the new control unit: compare the data.
To make sure that the supplied control unit can be assigned to the corresponding transmission, an additional label is affixed to the control unit (--> Figure 3 -arrow-).
The label shows the following information:
- KD Teilenummer (Service part number)
- Codenummer (Code number) (= transmission code number)
- Getriebenummer (Transmission number)
INFORMATION Before installing the control unit in the vehicle, check that the data on the label matches the data on the transmission.
1.3 Install the control unit:
Install the control unit, --> Workshop Manual '373019 Removing and installing transmission control unit (PDK)'.
INFORMATION
- Following installation, program the control unit using the PIWIS Tester (with new software version 21.110), then code it and calibrate it.
- The new software 21.110 is available as a DVD (as of July 16, 2008 via the parts department) and online (since July 10, 2008).
- If the PDK control unit is not programmed and calibrated, the control unit software will remain in the "Emergency operation program" function. As a result, it will only be possible to drive the vehicle or operate the transmission in restricted mode.
2 Spare parts requirements for PDK transmission (bundle)
Use the currently valid transmission part number in PET for ordering required spare parts.
This part number will be used until further notice for supplying the transmission together with the related control unit (as a bundle) from our parts warehouse in Ludwigsburg.
INFORMATION
- Following installation, program the control unit using the PIWIS Tester (with new software version 21.110), then code it and calibrate it.
- The new software 21.110 is available as a DVD (as of July 16, 2008 via the parts department) and online (since July 10, 2008).
