Preliminary work

INFORMATION:
If the PCM unit is to be replaced with a new unit, the navigation data must be installed using a Software Update navigation CD/DVD.
- To enable you to actually install the Software Update navigation data, you must read out the enabling code from the PIWIS information system. Additional enabling codes, e.g. customer has navigation system for Europe and Russia, or customer has already obtained navigation updates, must be queried by customer service personnel at the customer site.
- The Software Update navigation CD/DVD is sent to every Porsche importer/Porsche dealer, who is registered to automatically receive special tools or PIWIS Tester releases.
- Each dealer receives one Software Update navigation CD/DVD, depending on the country.
- If additional Software Update navigation CDs/DVDs are required, e.g. if the customer needs both Europe and Russia, the CDs/DVDs can also be ordered via PET.
- The Software Update navigation CD/DVD must not be handed over to the customer. This CD/DVD can only be used with the PIWIS Tester 9718.
- The Software Update navigation CD/DVD that corresponds to the relevant vehicle model year must always be used for the required PCM unit, e.g. if the vehicle model year is 2009, the CD/DVD for 2009 must be used. This applies even if CDs/DVDs for 2010 are available.
- The model year-based Software Update navigation CD/DVD must always be archived in the Porsche Centre.
- Further changes/supplements to the Software Update navigation CD/DVD can also be obtained. These will have to be used later for older vehicles. For example, CDs/DVDs for 2010 are already available, but an error was found on the 2009 version, so the old CD/DVD for 2009 will have to be replaced with an updated CD/DVD for 2009. This process will be announced in a TI.
- Current compatibility with Bluetooth telephones can always be checked out at.

1. If the PCM unit is to be replaced with a new or different PCM unit, the data must be read out before removal using the PIWIS Tester 9718.

1.1. PIWIS Tester 9718 must be connected to the vehicle. Then, start the System Tester. Switch on the ignition and press ]] to continue.
1.2. Select the vehicle type. Press ]] to continue.
1.3. Select PCM3 menu and press ]].
1.4. Select Control unit replacement menu and press ]].
1.5. Select Read values (vehicle data) and press ]].
1.6. The message Vehicle data was read out will appear on the Tester screen. ]]
1.7. After replacing PCM, the data that was read out is installed when the Control unit programming menu is selected.

2. If the data cannot be read out, the new PCM unit must be coded following replacement using the PIWIS Tester 9718.
3. Remove the two side covers on the centre console.

Removing PCM display and operator control unit
1. Switch off ignition and remove ignition key.

2. Carefully open the side latches on the PCM unit using a hexagon-socket wrench by turning them 90° anti-clockwise and remove the PCM unit.

3. Release and disconnect electric plug connections and antenna connectors on the back of the PCM unit. The number of plug connections can vary, depending on equipment.
4. If the PCM unit has to be replaced and a telephone control unit is installed:
4.1. Remove the telephone control unit.

Installing PCM display and operator control unit
1. If the PCM unit has to be replaced and a telephone control unit is installed:
1.1. Install the telephone control unit.

2. Connect electric plug connections and antenna connectors on the back of the PCM unit until the connectors engage securely.

3. Check that the locking lugs on the PCM unit are turned out. Carefully press out the latches using a hexagon-socket wrench by turning them 90° clockwise if necessary.
4. Slide the PCM unit into the installation slot until the locks engage on the PCM housing.

Subsequent work
1. The data/values' that were read out from the PCM unit must be written back into PCM using the PIWIS Tester 9718.
2. If the data/values could not be read out, PCM must be coded.
3. Install the two side covers on the centre console.

Programming display and operator control unit (PCM 3.0)

CAUTION:
Voltage drop
- Risk of irreparable damage to control unit
- Risk of damage to control unit
- Fault entries in the control unit
- Coding in the control unit is aborted
- Malfunctions in control unit, even during programming
- Prior to disconnecting the control unit, switch off the ignition and remove the ignition key.
- Ensure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming.
- Connect a battery charger with a current rating of at least - Nominal value: 40 A to the vehicle battery.

INFORMATION:
- If a new PCM/CDR is to be installed in a vehicle, the enabling code specified in the PIWIS information system must be used.
- You can get the codes from the PIWIS Infosystem or from your importer by specifying the vehicle identification number.
- During coding, it is essential to guarantee the power supply for the PIWIS Tester 9718. A battery charger with a current rating of at least 40 A must be connected to the vehicle battery.
- The PIWIS Tester 9718 instructions take precedence and in the event of a discrepancy these are the instructions that must be followed. Deviations may occur with later software versions.
- The procedure described here has been structured in general terms; different text may appear in the PIWIS Tester 9718 or additional information/steps may be displayed or required.
