Replacement Or Reconditioned Engine: Engine For Model Year 2009 (24/09)

Vehicle Type:
Boxster (987)/Boxster S (987)
Cayman/Cayman S

Model Year:
2009

Vehicle Type:
911 Carrera (997)/911 Carrera S (997)

Concerns:
Replacement engine for model year 2009 (9) vehicles (referred to below as "Model 9").

Situation:
Spare parts requirements for engine (replacement engine or reconditioned engine).
Only a limited number of Model 9 engines will be produced for spare parts requirements up to the end of Model 9. Only engines from model year 2010 (A) will be available after that for spare parts requirements for Model 9 vehicles.
Reason: Standard oil pressure sensor (10 bar).

Action Required:
As soon as existing stocks of Model 9 replacement engines have been used up, Model A engines must be installed in Model 9 vehicles. The DME control unit (and PDT control unit, if installed) must also be reprogrammed.

In the interim period, it is possible that both Model 9 and Model A engines depending on engine variant and availability will be available at the same time from our Parts Service in Ludwigsburg.

Work Procedure:
1. Install the replacement or reconditioned engine in the model 9 vehicle.
2. Check the engine number ( underside of crankcase) on the engine to find out the model year (= first digit of the engine serial number) of the engine.

Example (for 3.4-litre Boxster/Cayman):
Model 9: M A 1 2 1 _ _ 9 1 2 3 4 5
Model A: M A 1 2 1 _ _ A 6 7 8 9 0

Example (for 3.8-litre Carrera):
Model 9: M A 1 0 1 _ _ 9 1 2 3 4 5
Model A: M A 1 0 1 _ _ A 6 7 8 9 0

3. If the model year is 9: Carry out installation work.
End of action required.
If the model year is A: Carry out installation work. Then continue with -> 4
