Eliminating Noise Symptoms - Securing Air Filter (Air Filter Rattling)

General information

Symptom
Rattling noise from the rear area and/or noises when travelling over bumps.

Causes and remedial action

Cause

Third fastening point on the air filter (referred to below as air cleaner housing) was not fitted securely enough.

Remedial action

Check that the air cleaner housing is seated securely and refit the top fastening point if necessary.

Tools and materials
987.110.141.00 - Grommet (for mounting air cleaner housing)

Securing air cleaner housing
1. Remove air-cleaner element as described.







2. Check air cleaner housing at the top left fastening point ( -item 3- ) to ensure that the grommet is seated securely and fitted correctly on the tucker stud.
- If the air cleaner housing is fitted securely, continue with Step 6.







3. Loosen air cleaner housing at the bottom.
3.1. Lift the vehicle.
3.2. Unscrew fastening screw -item 2- at the bottom of the air cleaner housing -item 1-.
3.3. Lower the vehicle.







4. Loosen the air cleaner housing at the top by unscrewing the fastening screw -item 2-.
5. Replace the mounting grommet at the top left ( -item 3- ) with a new grommet.
6. Fill the gap between the air cleaner housing and body side panel with a strip of foam (approx. 5 cm long, 3 cm wide, 2 cm thick).
7. Install air-cleaner element as described.
