Drive Belt: Service and Repair

Preliminary work

1. Put protective covers in the passenger compartment.
2. Remove rear wall cover.

NOTICE

Drive belt removed incorrectly

- Risk of damage to drive belt

-> Only remove the drive belt when it is cold.
-> Replace damaged drive belt.

Information

- Mark running direction of drive belt with a coloured pen.

- Even minor damage means that the drive belt must be replaced (even if the maintenance interval has not expired).

- If the drive belt has to be replaced (change interval), it can be cut to facilitate removal.

1. Slacken the drive belt.
1.1. Fit a ring wrench (a/f 30) -2- on the hexagon -1- on the tensioner, turn it clockwise as far as it will go and hold it at that position.

1.2. Remove drive belt from the pulley on the generator -arrow-.
1.3. Carefully allow the tensioning roller to slide back to its original position.
2. Feed the drive belt -1- out between the engine bracket and vibration damper -2-.

3. Feed out the drive belt on the various pulleys.

4. Take off the drive belt -1-.
4.1. If you intend to re-install the drive belt, check it carefully for signs of damage on both running tracks.

- Check for foreign objects in the grooves of the pulley.

5. Check pulley for damage.

1. Guide in the drive belt with the flat side between the engine bracket and vibration damper and position it on the grooves.

2. Fit the drive belt onto the other pulleys in accordance with the belt threading course.

2.1. Fit drive belt on the tensioning roller
3. Fit drive belt.
3.1. Fit a ring wrench (a/f 30) -2- on the hexagon -1- on the tensioner, turn it clockwise as far as it will go and hold it at that position.
3.2. Slide the drive belt onto the tensioning roller.
3.3. Let the tensioner slide back slowly into tensioning position (anti-clockwise).

4. Check that all pulleys and the tensioning roller are installed at the correct position.
4.1. To do this, turn the belt tensioner clockwise as far as it will go using the ring wrench -1- and hold it at this position.
4.2. Guide the drive belt clockwise over the pulley -2- for the air conditioning compressor with your hand.

Subsequent work

1. Install rear wall cover.
