Cabriolet Top Compartment Water Drains

Model year:

as of 2005

Vehicle Type:

Boxster (987)/Boxster S (987)

Concerns:

Instructions for regular vehicle maintenance and cabriolet top care.

Information:

Accumulation of dirt and debris in water drains in cabriolet top compartment drain area.

If vehicles are frequently parked under or close to trees, shrubs, hedges or bushes, leaves and dirt and debris can accumulate and become deposited in the spaces between the top and the top compartment lid.

If these deposits are not removed, they can get into the top compartment when the top is opened.

In certain circumstances, this can block the water drains and can cause water to leak into the interior of the vehicle.

While caring for the vehicle, all functional areas, such as air intakes, cabriolet top compartment, lids, doors, flaps, must always be checked for dirt and debris and must be cleaned accordingly.

In order to reduce the possibility of blocked water drain pipes as described in 539330 Cleaning rear water drains, vehicles, which were manufactured on or after the specified date of introduction, have additional filters installed in the rear water drains in the cabriolet top compartment.

These can be retrofitted as required in accordance with the description below on vehicles manufactured before the date of introduction of the filters.

Information

Please note that the presence or installation of filters does not mean that the cabriolet top compartment no longer needs to be checked regularly and cleaned if necessary. The filters merely prevent dirt and debris from getting into the water drain pipes.

Customer Information:

Please provide the customer a copy of this TI and inform them that they must inspect and clean the cabriolet top compartment regularly in accordance with the procedures described here.

If customer vehicles are found to have dirt and debris deposits in the cabriolet top compartment area, the water drains must be checked for blockages and may have to be cleaned as described in 539330 Cleaning rear water drains in order to prevent subsequent damage.

In this case, advise your customer to retrofit the water drain filters.

Maintenance:

We wish to point out that both the cabriolet top compartment and the water drains must be checked for dirt and debris during maintenance as part of a visual inspection of the engine compartment.

If necessary, the water drains must be cleaned as an additional billable task as described in 539330 Cleaning rear water drains.

The maintenance documents have been updated accordingly.
