Information

- This description relates to all engine variants. Both air cleaner housings (V8) are removed and installed in the same way.

1. Complete the steps required for removing the air-cleaner element. -> 242419 Removing and installing air-cleaner element on DFI engines Service and Repair
2. Remove the relevant wheel housing liner. -> 505619 Removing and installing front wheel housing liner Service and Repair.

Removing air cleaner housing

Air cleaner housing for V6 =>
1. Remove the complete air cleaner housing.
1.1. Pull out oil dipstick. -1-

1.2. Loosen fastening screw on power-steering oil reservoir and set the reservoir aside. => Dipstick, power-steering oil reservoir
1.3. Remove ground point for jump-lead starting underneath the wing next to the air cleaner housing with a cap nut.
1.4. Remove screw on air cleaner housing -arrow-. Pull air cleaner housing up out of the rubber holders

1.5. Press off air intake at the bottom of the air cleaner housing. => Illustration of air guide for V8 (right)

1.6. Turn the air cleaner housing and pull it up and out. => Air cleaner housing

2. Unclip the lines for the coolant reservoir on cylinder bank 1 - 4. The cable is clipped in at 2 points. => Lines

3. Pull air guide off the air cleaner housing from the wheel well. To do this, take hold of the air guide in one hand and pull it forward at an angle. => Illustration of air guide for V8

4. Lift the air cleaner housing, tip it towards the engine and remove it from the engine compartment. => Illustration of lifting up V8 air cleaner housing

Installing air cleaner housing

Air cleaner housing for V6 =>
1. Fit air cleaner housing in installation position.

2. Introduce the two retaining bolts on the underside into the take-up bores in the body. Check the wheel well to make sure that the rubber washers are present and ensure that the bolts are properly fitted.

3. Tighten the fastening screw on the air cleaner housing. => Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)

4. Replace the air guide on the air cleaner housing from the wheel well. Check that the air guide is installed correctly. Lubricate the bulb of the air cleaner housing with glycerine if necessary to make fitting easier.

5. Secure ground point, fit power-steering supply tank and insert oil dipstick.Air cleaner housing for V8 =>
1. Guide the air cleaner housing into the engine compartment at an angle from above.

8. Introduce the two retaining bolts on the underside into the take-up bores in the body. Check the wheel well to make sure that the rubber washers are present and ensure that the bolts are properly fitted.

9. Tighten the fastening screw on the air cleaner housing. => Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)

10. Clip in the line from the coolant reservoir on cylinder bank 1 - 4. The cable is clipped in at 2 points.

11. Replace the air guide on the air cleaner housing from the wheel well. Check that the air guide is installed correctly. Lubricate the bulb of the air cleaner housing with glycerine if necessary to make fitting easier.

Subsequent work

1. Complete the steps required for installing the air-cleaner element in the same way. -> 242419 Removing and installing air-cleaner element on DFI engines Service and Repair
2. Install the relevant wheel housing liner. -> 505619 Removing and installing front wheel housing liner Service and Repair.
