Crankshaft Position Sensor: Service and Repair

Technical values





Preliminary work

1. Remove left engine compartment cover. -> 700219 Removing and installing front trim (engine compartment) - section on "Removing" Service and Repair
2. Remove air cleaner housing cover and air-cleaner element. -> 242419 Removing and installing air-cleaner element on DFI engines - section on "Removing" Service and Repair
3. Remove centre engine guard. -> 108019 Removing and installing engine guard (underbody panel) on DFI engines - section on "Removing" 108019 Removing and installing engine guard (underbody panelling)

Removing crankshaft pulse sender

1. Press the two coolant hoses aside and remove screw on oil dip stick. Pull out oil dip stick. -1-

Information

- The cable plug for the crankshaft pulse sender is secured in a difficult-to-reach position at the guide tube for the oil dip stick.

2. Press the cable plug for the crankshaft pulse sender on the guide tube of the oil dip stick towards the cylinder block (is only pushed in) -arrow-. Then disconnect the cable plug.

Information

- The cable for the crankshaft pulse sender is installed between the cylinder block and the oil filter housing/engine support arm.

3. Remove crankshaft pulse sender by loosening the fastening screw -arrow-. Pull crankshaft pulse sender out of the cylinder block. Carefully pull out the cable.

Installing crankshaft pulse sender

Information

- Check the sealing ring on the crankshaft pulse sender and replace it if necessary.

1. Fit crankshaft pulse sender into the cylinder block. Align and screw fastening screw in hand-tight.

2. Tighten fastening screw. Crankshaft pulse sender => Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)
3. Use a wire or auxiliary cable to guide the cable for the crankshaft pulse sender between the cylinder block and oil-filter housing/engine carrier.
4. Connect cable plug and slide onto oil dip stick guide tube.

5. Press the two coolant hoses onto the intake-air distributor and fit screw on oil dip stick. Insert dip stick. -1-

Subsequent work

1. Install centre engine guard. -> 108019 Removing and installing engine guard (underbody panel) on DFI engines - section on "Installing" 108019 Removing and installing engine guard (underbody panelling)
2. Fit air cleaner housing cover and air-cleaner element. -> 242419 Removing and installing air-cleaner element on DFI engines - section on "Installing" Service and Repair
3. Fit left engine compartment cover. -> 700219 Removing and installing front trim (engine compartment) - section on "Installing" Service and Repair
