Engine - Coolant Temperature Sensor/Switch: Service and Repair

Technical values





Preliminary work

1. Raise the vehicle.
-> 4X00IN01 Lifting the vehicle Service and Repair.
2. Allow engine to cool down.
3. Place cooling-water collection pan underneath.
4. Remove rear wall lining and rear wall cover.

Hot fluid

- Danger of scalding

-> Let the fluid cool down.
-> Wear personal protective gear.

Information

Specifications for wrench sizes (a/f specifications) for screw heads are described as follows:

- Torx screws: (E.) for external Torx, (T.) for internal Torx.

- Hexagon-head bolts (internal and external hexagon): Wrench size (a/f)

1. Detach crankcase vent line at oil bracket and cylinder head.





Positive crankcase ventilation connection for cylinder head 4-6

1.1. Press locking ring for crankcase vent line -arrow- to release it and pull it off.
1.2. Unscrew external Torx screw (E10, M6 x 20) -1- at the oil bracket.
1.3. Pull crankcase vent line out of the flange on the oil bracket.
1.4. Replace O-rings.
2. Remove temperature sensor -3-.





Temperature sensor

2.1. Disconnect cable plug -2-.
2.2. Loosen and unscrew temperature sensor using a ring wrench (a/f 22).
2.3. Replace sealing ring for temperature sensor.

Installing temperature sensor

Information

- Grease O-rings, hoses and lines in the cooling system with Kluberplus Gel (Part No. 000.043.205.93).

1. Install temperature sensor -3- with new sealing ring.





Temperature sensor

1.1. Fit and tighten temperature sensor.
=> Tightening torque: 30 Nm (22 ftlb.)-3 Nm (-2 ftlb.)
1.2. Connect cable plug -2-.
2. Install crankcase vent line.





Positive crankcase ventilation connection for cylinder head 4-6

2.1. Grease new O-rings lightly with Kluber Syntheso Glep (Porsche part number 000.043.204.68).
2.2. Connect crankcase vent line -arrow- to the engine ventilation cover.
The plug-in coupling must lock with an audible click.
2.3. Fit crankcase vent line to the oil bracket flange.
2.4. Fit and tighten external Torx screw (E10, M6 x 20) -1-.
=> Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)

Subsequent work

1. Check engine coolant level and top up coolant if necessary.
-> 190101 Checking cooling system - section on "Checking" Testing and Inspection.
2. Install rear wall cover and rear wall lining.
