ParkAssist (PDC - Park Distance Control)
ParkAssist (PDC - Park Distance Control)
General Information
- Active after switching on ignition
- Operating range 0 - 9 mph (15 km/h)
- Acoustic warning:
front - 120 cm or less &
behind - 150 cm or less
- Visual warning:
front - 120 cm or less,
side - 120 cm or less &
rear - 180 cm or less
All Panamera models are equipped with a rear 4-channel ParkAssist system with an acoustic warning as standard equipment. A tone generator in the instrument cluster provides the driver with an acoustic warning (intermittent tones getting continuously faster) when approaching an obstacle.
An enhanced ParkAssist system with six additional sensors in the front area - making it a 10-channel ParkAssist system - comes as standard equipment in the Panamera Turbo and is available as an option in the other models. The rear-area warning is output by a loudspeaker in the C-pillar. The sound is therefore different in the front and rear (lower in the rear). In addition, the distances are displayed in the form of a schematic representation of the top view of the vehicle in the PCM (and CDR). Dynamic guide lines are displayed in conjunction with the reversing camera.
When the ignition is switched on, ParkAssist is activated automatically as soon as reverse gear is engaged. This is confirmed by a short acoustic signal in the 4-channel ParkAssist variant, while the visual display on the PCM or CDR system is activated in the 10-channel ParkAssist variant. The operating range is from 0 to 9 mph (15 km/h). It can be switched on and off using a switch on the head unit. (The 10-channel variant can also be switched off using a switch on the roof console. The LED in the switch then lights up). ParkAssist is switched on again the next time the ignition is switched on. ParkAssist is activated automatically when there is a distance of 80 cm or less from an obstacle to the front and 60 cm or less to the side of the vehicle.
Obstacle Detection
An intermittent tone sounds when obstacles are detected. The intervals decrease in five stages as the vehicle comes closer to the obstacle. A continuous tone sounds when the distance is less than approx. 35 cm.
The obstacle detection function of the ultrasonic measurement is impaired by:
- Sound-absorbing obstacles (e.g. winter driving, powder snow)
- Sound-reflecting obstacles (e.g. glass surfaces, flat painted surfaces)
- Very thin obstacles (e.g. thin posts)
- Other ultrasonic sources (e.g. pneumatic brakes on other vehicles)
NOTES:
- Obstacles cannot be detected in the sensor's "blind spot" (above and below the sensors, e.g. objects hanging down or close to the ground).
- Correct operation may be impaired if there is a temporary fault (e.g. caused by ice formation or heavy soiling on the sensors).
Display Area
The proximity to obstacles is displayed in the form of a schematic representation (diagram) of the top view of the vehicle in the central PCM display or in the CDR. ParkAssist activation is indicated both by the visual display and sound output.
Maintenance notes:
- The sensors must always be kept free of dust, ice and snow in order to ensure that they are fully functional
- Do not damage sensors by abrasion or scratching
- Maintain a sufficient distance when cleaning with power washers
- The sensors will be damaged if the pressure is too high
Deactivating ParkAssist
Press the switch on the roof operating console. If the indicator light on the switch comes on, ParkAssist is off.
Function for each PDK position:
P - No warning
R - Acoustic and visual warning active
N - Diagram appears only at a distance less than 80 cm at the front + warning tone at 120 cm or less, acoustic and visual warning active if vehicle rolls back
D - Diagram appears only at a distance less than 80 cm, system remains active for another 30 seconds when driver switches from "R" to "D"
On vehicles with Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK), no visual or acoustic warning is issued when selector-lever position "P" is selected. The acoustic and visual warning for the front and rear is active in position "R" and the diagram appears in the display on the head unit. When PDK is switched to position "N", a diagram only appears when there is an obstacle at a distance of less than 80 cm in front of the vehicle. Irrespective of this, the front warning tone sounds at a distance of 120 cm or less.
If an obstacle is approaching from behind, there is no warning tone but the distance at the rear is displayed in the diagram. If the vehicle rolls backwards while selector-lever position "N" is selected, the vehicle behaves in the same way as for position "R". When position "D" is selected, the diagram is only displayed at a certain distance (less than 80 cm). When the driver switches from "R" to "D", full system functionality is retained for a further 30 seconds. In vehicles with manual transmission, the acoustic warning at the front and rear is active when reverse gear is engaged. In all other gears, the system behaves in the same way as for position "D" on vehicles with PDK.
Additional Information
When ParkAssist is switched on, the visual parking aid is displayed on the PCM screen in the following situations:
- When reverse gear is engaged
- When ParkAssist detects that the vehicle is rolling backwards
- When the distance from a detected object at the front is less than 80 cm
- In PCM - manual activation using the CAR button at a speed of less than 9 mph (15 km/h), at a distance of greater than 80 cm and intermittent tone sounds (CAR - OPTION greater than PARKASSIST)
- In PCM - manual activation via CAR - OPTION - PARKASSIST
- In CDR - manual activation via CAR - PARKASSIST
The display disappears again as soon as:
- One of the main menu buttons is pressed on the PCM/CDR (In this case, the display can be restored by pressing the CAR button)
- The Back button is pressed on the PCM/CDR (In this case, the display can be restored by pressing the CAR button)
- The driver shifts out of reverse (after 30 seconds or speed greater than 9 mph (15 km/h)
- The electric parking brake is applied
- The PDK selector lever is moved to position P
