Aluminum Repairs Work Bay
Aluminum Repairs Work Bay
Work area must be immaculately clean for working on aluminum body parts:
- Few horizontal surfaces, pipes and lines
- Less dust deposits
- Vacuum cleaning or sweeping (no vacuum cleaning using compressed air - risk of explosion)
- Optimal would be a area with washable walls and floors for wet-cleaning
Special occupational health and safety considerations for working with aluminum:
- Existing tools for working with steel must not be used for working on both steel and aluminum
- Tools and connecting elements (e.g. screws, washers) made of steel must never come into direct contact with the aluminum body
- Tools and connecting elements for aluminum must always be marked in a different color to avoid confusion
Separation of aluminum work bays from adjacent steel work bays:
- The aluminum work bay must be protected from steel/grinding dust and steel chips from adjacent workshop areas due to the risk of corrosion
Special occupational health and safety considerations for working with aluminum:
- Electrical installations and equipment must have extra protection in accordance with the guidelines in the area in which aluminum dust concentrations occur (lights, plug sockets, lifting platforms, vacuum cleaners and all electrical equipment or compressed air tools used in the area).
Other requirements:
- The vehicle to be repaired must be completely covered with only the actual repair area exposed in order to prevent consequential damage.
- If steel components, e.g. steel rivets, need to be ground, the aluminium parts must be protected from flying sparks.
