=> Gap dimension: 4 mm+1 mm-0.5 mm

Adjusting front lid

Adjusting front lid gap dimensions

Information

- Set gap dimensions on cover and accessories in accordance with the gap specifications.

- Given a clearance in the opening that is too large or too small, the movable body or the accessories must be centred accordingly.

- Ensure that the gaps do not run in a wedge-shaped fashion or do not narrow at local points.

- The given values are guidelines which should be observed as far as possible.

- The guidelines apply to repair and assembly work.

- Use star gauges to measure the gap dimensions. Star gauges for body gap dimensions NR.127-1





Installation position of front lid

1. Check the gap dimensions. -> 552215 Adjusting front lid - section on "Technical values"
2. Remove pedestrian protection at the left and right. -> 697019 Removing and installing pedestrian protection - section on "Removing" 697019 Removing and installing pedestrian protection
3. Loosen fastening nuts -1- on the upper part of the lid lock so that the upper part of the lid lock can still be moved.

4. Adjust gaps on front lid.
4.1. Loosen fastening nuts on the front lid -2- at both sides so that the lid can still be moved.

4.2. Close the lid.
4.3. By moving the front lid at the hinges, adjust the contours according to the wings, main headlights and front apron. -> 552215 Adjusting front lid - section on "Technical values"

4.4. Tighten fastening nuts -2- => Tightening torque: 20 Nm (15 ftlb.) on front lid.

5. Close the front lid and check the setting. If the setting does not correspond to the required values, repeat steps 1 to 4. -> 552215 Adjusting front lid - section on "Technical values"
6. Tighten fastening nuts -1- => Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.) on upper part of lid lock.

7. Check position of front edge of lid with respect to the front apron.
7.1. Change the inclination, gap dimension and height of the front edge of the lid by setting the adjusting elements. The adjusting elements must allow slight preload on the closed front lid. -> 552215 Adjusting front lid - section on "Technical values"

8. Check the height adjustment and change it if necessary. -> 552215 Adjusting front lid - section on "Technical values"

Adjusting height of front lid

1. Check that the lower part of the lid lock is at its basic setting in accordance with -> 551719 Removing and installing lower part of front lid lock 551719 Removing and Installing Lower Part of Front Lid Lock and adjust it if necessary.
2. Remove cowl panel cover. -> 508700 Removing and installing cowl panel cover - section on "Installing" Service and Repair
3. Loosen the fastening screws -3- so that the hinge can still be moved.

4. Close the front lid.
5. Adjust the height by moving the lid. -> 552215 Adjusting front lid - section on "Technical values"

6. Open the front lid.
7. Tighten fastening screws -3- => Tightening torque: 33 Nm (24 ftlb.).

8. Check the height, gap dimensions and inclination of the lid at the front edge and correct it if necessary. The adjusting elements must allow slight preload on the closed front lid.-> 552215 Adjusting front lid - section on "Technical values"
9. Install cowl panel cover. -> 508700 Removing and installing cowl panel cover - section on "Installing" Service and Repair

Checking front lid lock

Function test on front lid lock

Information

The lid lock does not have an emergency release.

When working close to the front apron and on the various parts of the lock, carry out the following function test before closing the lid:

1. Check that the release cable is clipped fully into the brackets provided.
2. Lock the lower part of the lid lock with a screwdriver.
3. Release the lid lock using the lever in the passenger compartment.
4. Perform a visual inspection to check that the lock releases correctly.
