Preliminary work

Information

The engine must be supported on the body in order to remove the front axle, oil guide housing, oil pump or similar components.

1. Remove design covers on the engine (release eyelets). -> 108319 Removing and installing engine cover (design cover) Service and Repair
2. Remove the top covers at the sides of both spring strut domes and expose the installation positions for the rear special tool supports. To do this, unclip the lines and press them aside carefully. Fit the rear special tool supports as a test. Details are as follows (there may be some differences, depending on equipment and unit variants):
2.1. Remove the cable holder on the right spring strut dome by removing the screw -2-. Remove the cable holder.

2.2. Remove screw on washer-fluid reservoir. -1-
2.3. Detach fuel line and vent line from the holder. -4 and 5-
2.4. Press lines to one side.

Information

The support must be positioned not only on the spring strut dome, but it must also be pushed onto the edge of the plate. Danger of slipping off!

2.5. Slide the support onto the edge of the right spring-strut dome plate, which is now free. Support support T40091/50-51 made up of three components -1, 2 and 3-

2.6. Remove valve unit holder on the left spring strut dome. To do this, remove the screw -1- and set the valve unit aside.

Information

The support must be positioned not only on the spring strut dome, but it must also be pushed onto the edge of the plate. Danger of slipping off!

2.7. Slide the support onto the edge of the left spring-strut dome plate, which is now free. Support support T40091/50-51 made up of three components -1, 2 and 3-

3. Expose the two front longitudinal members on both sides.
3.1. Remove the side boost pressure pipes on the Turbo.
3.2. Remove sheetmetal holder for the left air-conditioning line completely -1-. To do this, remove two screws -2- and unclip the air-conditioning line -2- (lever off plastic holder). Remove the sheetmetal holder.

WARNING

Objects or loads falling down

- Risk of squashing or crushing

-> Secure components to prevent them from falling down.

Information

A unit lift, such as transmission jack V.A.G 1383 A WE 1082 or transmission and unit jack Junior Jack 2.0 WE 1223 with GA passenger-vehicle transmission plate WE 1224, can also be used to support the raised vehicle while you are working.

1. Fit supports on the two front longitudinal members. The left side => Support on left longitudinal member is shown. The hooks must be positioned over the sheetmetal seam and the side sheetmetal holder must enclose the longitudinal member.

2. Connect supports to brackets on both sides. The bracket must be horizontal (adjust by turning the supports) => Bracket on right support => Bracket on left support. Check using a spirit level if necessary.

3. Fit cross member for support bracket. => Fitting cross member

4. Straighten the support bracket and tighten screws by hand. Tighten wing screws by hand and hexagon-head bolts using a ring wrench.
5. Engage lifting tackle and fit both hooks into the engine carrier eyebolts. => Lifting tackle

6. Tension the engine by aligning the hooks and tightening the spindles at the same time. => Lifting tackle
