Ignition System: Description and Operation
Ignition System
Ignition Coils
The Panamera features static high-voltage ignition distribution with individual ignition coils for each spark plug. The individual ignition coils with integral drivers have the following advantages:
- High level of ignition reliability
- Minimum electromagnetic interference with other electronic components
- No requirement for ignition cables and distributor
The function of the ignition distributor is performed by the engine control unit. All of the described advantages of the ignition system ensure safe ignition processes and contribute to optimized power output together with reduced emissions and fuel consumption.
NOTE:
After removal of the ignition coils, the screws must be replaced with new screws. The following must be observed, for example, when securing the ignition coils:
- The screw threads must be absolutely clean.
- Aluminum screws must always be tightened in two steps (torque and torque angle) or using a special yield-point wrench.
- Aluminum screws must not be installed using the tightening parameters for steel screws. Subsequent clicking with the wrench is not necessary and can damage the screws.
