Preliminary work

1. Remove steering column switch -> 945019 Removing and installing steering column switch - section on "Removing" Service and Repair.
2. Remove lower part of dashboard -> 702219 Removing and installing cover under dashboard - section on "Removing" 702219 Removing and installing cover under dashboard.

Removing steering column

Information

- The fore-and-aft adjustment must be brought to the fully extended position for the electrically adjustable steering column. The vertical adjustment must be moved to the centre position. This will improve access to the fastening screws on the mounting bracket.





Steering column





1. Remove retaining bracket for lower part of dashboard.

1.1. Unscrew fastening screws -1- on both sides.
1.2. Remove retaining bracket for lower part of dashboard -2-.
2. Release and pull off electric plug connection -3- ( -arrow- ).
3. Remove the steering column.

3.1. Unscrew fastening screws -1- on both sides.
3.2. Carefully remove the steering column.
4. Pull off electric plug connection -1-.

5. Mark the steering column shaft -1- and lower part -2- of steering column using a suitable pen/marker -3-.
This is necessary in order to fit the two parts of the steering column -1 and 2- at the same position again.

6. Pull the steering column shaft -1- off the lower part -2- of the steering column with a quick, strong jerk -arrow-.
7. Remove the steering column -1- from the vehicle.
8. Protect the removed steering column and the lower part of the steering column from dirt and contamination using clean plastic bags.

Installing steering column

1. The steering column is installed in reverse order to removal.
2. Always use the correct tightening torques -> 4X00IN Tightening torques for steering [1][2]Specifications.

Subsequent work

1. Install steering column switch -> 945037 Disassembling and assembling steering column switch - section on "Installing" Service and Repair.
2. Install lower part of dashboard -> 702219 Removing and installing cover under dashboard - section on "Installing" 702219 Removing and installing cover under dashboard.
