Replacement or Reconditioned Engine for Model Year A/2010

M48120 (naturally aspirated engine)
M48140 (naturally aspirated engine, all-wheel drive)
M48170 (turbo engine, all-wheel drive)

Concerns:

Replacement or reconditioned engine:
- modified engine mounting,
- modified front-axle final drive (tripod joint) (all-wheel drive),
- modified engine carrier (tripod joint) (all-wheel drive),
- Omission of left engine carrier.

Information:

Spare parts requirements for engine Model Year A12010(replacement or reconditioned engine).

Model Year A/2010 engines will no longer be available from the parts department.

Action Required:

If replacement/reconditioned engines are required for Model Year A vehicles, Model Year B1201 / engines must be used for the above-mentioned engine types.

Due to modifications from Model Year B1201 / with regard to the engine mountings (all) and the front-axle final drive and engine carrier (tripod joint; all-wheel drive only) the following applies for installation of these engines in Model Year A vehicles:

All vehicles





The left engine carrier (--> Figure 1) must be removed and must no longer be used as the replacement/reconditioned engine is supplied with modified engine mountings.

The right engine carrier (--> Figure 1) is still required.





All-wheel drive vehicles only
The previously installed engine carrier ( -A-) and the front-axle final drive (-B-) must be removed from the previous engine and installed on the replacement/reconditioned engine.
