Preliminary work for four-wheel final drive

1. Remove underbody cover. -> 519219 Removing and installing cover for front underbody 519219 Removing and installing Cover For Front Underbody

3. Remove underbody cover. -> 519419 Removing and installing cover for rear underbody 519419 Removing and Installing Cover for Rear Underbody
4. Remove rear cardan shaft. -> 393519 Removing and installing rear cardan shaft - section on "Removing" Service and Repair
5. Support the engine at the body. -> 1001IN Supporting engine at the body (engine safety device) 1001IN Supporting engine on the body (engine safety device)
6. Remove front axle. -> 400619 Removing and installing front-axle carrier 400619 Removing and installing front-axle carrier

Removing four-wheel final drive

1. Remove running gear brace.

2. Remove engine mounting. -> 103519 Removing and installing engine mounting
3. Place collection pan underneath.
4. Detach coolant pipe at turbocharger.

5. Remove torque support at bracket.

6. Detach cross shaft engine carrier from engine and pull it out by approx. 20 cm by twisting it.
7. Lower engine at safety device by approx. 15 mm.
8. Remove engine mounting. -> 103519 Removing and installing engine mounting
9. Remove catalytic converter on the right. -> 267319 Removing and installing catalytic converter - section on "Removing"
10. Impact puller 9799 must be fitted at the groove in the connecting shaft using 4 screws.

11. Remove connecting shaft from four-wheel final drive using impact puller 9799. At the same time, the connecting shaft pushes itself into the PDK transmission.

The fastening screw can only be removed and fitted when the assembly is removed.

- Transmission oil can leak out when removing the four-wheel final drive.

12. Unscrew fastening screws securing final drive to engine and remove final drive.

The fastening screw can only be removed and fitted when the assembly is removed.

- Transmission oil can leak out when removing the four-wheel final drive.

1. Insert fastening screw -1- into transmission.

2. Tighten fastening screws for four-wheel final drive in the prescribed sequence => Mounting, final drive to engine. => Tightening torque: 54 Nm (40 ftlb.)+6 Nm (+4.5 ftlb.)

3. Install engine mounting. -> 103519 Removing and installing engine mounting

Information

The fastening screw can only be removed and fitted when the assembly is removed.

4. Insert upper fastening screws at cross shaft engine carrier.
5. Insert cross shaft engine carrier together with shaft into final drive and screw in fastening screws. -> 1001TW Tightening torques, tightening sequences, assembly overviews [1][2]Specifications
6. Fit engine mounting on cross shaft engine carrier. -> 103519 Removing and installing engine mounting
7. Replace circlip at input flange of four-wheel final drive.

8. Thinly coat the inner teeth at the end of the connecting shaft with Anti Seize.
9. Impact puller 9799 must be fitted -1- at the groove in the connecting shaft using 4 screws.

10. Attach connecting shaft on four-wheel final drive and fit using impact puller 9799 until ring -1- on transmission is visible.

11. Remove impact puller 9799.

12. Once you have fitted the connecting shaft, check by hand whether it is correctly locked.
13. Install right catalytic converter. -> 267319 Removing and installing catalytic converter - section on "Removing"
14. Fit torque support at bracket. -> 1001TW Tightening torques, tightening sequences, assembly overviews [1][2]Specifications.

15. Tighten coolant pipe at turbocharger. -> 1001TW Tightening torques, tightening sequences, assembly overviews [1][2]Specifications.

16. Fit running gear brace. -> 4X00IN00 Tightening torques for front axle

Subsequent work for four-wheel final drive

2. Remove engine support at body. -> 1001IN Supporting engine at the body (engine safety device) 1001IN Supporting engine on the body (engine safety device)
3. Install rear cardan shaft. -> 393519 Removing and installing rear cardan shaft - section on "Installing" Service and Repair
4. Check oil for four-wheel final drive. -> 399035 Checking and topping up oil for four-wheel final drive 399035 Checking and Topping Up Oil For Four-Wheel Final Drive
5. Install underbody cover. -> 519419 Removing and installing cover for rear underbody 519419 Removing and Installing Cover for Rear Underbody
6. Install underbody cover. -> 519319 Removing and installing cover for centre underbody 519319 Removing and Installing Cover for Centre Underbody
7. Install underbody cover. -> 519219 Removing and installing cover for front underbody 519219 Removing and installing Cover For Front Underbody
