Antenna: Description and Operation
CDR-31 Antenna System
The basic AM/FM system includes a Phase Diversity system with two FM antennas and one AM antenna. Two antennas are always available for the CDR. Internal evaluation electronics ensure that the strongest signals are used in the tuner. The antennas are located in the rear window.
PCM 3.1 Antenna System
The antenna system is essentially located in the tailgate of the Panamera. When the optional PCM system is installed, a Scan Diversity system, consisting of 3 antennas, is used for FM. These are passed on to PCM via two antenna amplifiers (diversity logic is integrated in the right antenna amplifier). What is innovative about this system is that sensible antenna combinations can be combined with three different phase drive links in order to improve reception so that 10 FM antennas are available in reality for PCM. This combines the advantages of Scan Diversity with the advantages of Phase Diversity. PCM always gets the signal for a defined antenna or a switched combination from the Diversity system. The tuner in the PCM system returns the intermediate frequency to the Diversity system via the high-frequency line. Reception interference that occurs is detected there in the s range and causes the system to switch to a different antenna. An offset AM structure was developed to further enhance performance.
PCM 3.1/TV Antenna System
The antenna system comprises 4 TV antennas, which are coupled out from the rear window. The 4 antennas are all made available to the TV hybrid tuner, which always selects the best signal.
Overview of Rear Window Antennas
The FZV antenna is coupled out in wide-band from the right antenna amplifier. As a result, this antenna is suitable for the USA (315 MHz) and RoW (433 MHz) frequency range. The SHS antenna (866 MHz) is coupled out from a TV amplifier housing (lower edge of window).
GSM/GPS Antenna System
The GSM and GPS antennas are located under the rearview mirror trim. It is important that the cables for the adjacent sensors are not routed between the window and antenna so as not to impair the GPS functionality.
Satellite Digital Audio Radio Services (SDARS) Antenna System
The SDARS antenna is mounted in the rear third of the roof.
