PCM3.1
PCM 3.1 - Porsche Communication Management
New features of PCM 3.1:
- High-resolution 7-inch WVGA
- (Wide Video Graphics Array)
- 3D navigation map
- Speed limit display in PCM
- Map display in instrument cluster
The latest, enhanced generation of PCM with navigation module is available on request. While making operation even easier, it was possible at the same time to make the central control unit for all audio and communication equipment even more efficient. The exemplary ease of operation of the last PCM generation has been optimized further, while the basic logic of the menu structure has been retained to make it as easy as possible for existing Porsche customers to get used to the new system.
One main feature of PCM is the new high-resolution 7-inch (800 x 480 pixel) screen. Thanks to a display resolution that is four times higher than the previous generation, the display is now even easier to read and considerably clearer. Like the CDR-31 audio system, the screen is set in a high position on the sloping, continuous center console.
Bus systems:
The control unit communicates with other control units via CAN MMI. In order to communicate with external multimedia components, PCM 3.1 is connected via an optical MOST.
PCM 3.1 Options
For radio listeners, the audio system includes up to 48 memory locations if required (42 locations can be freely assigned, 6 presets for Best FM; together with the optional TV tuner, this gives a total of up to 66 memory locations - 48 for audio and 18 for TV), an FM double tuner with RDS (Radio Data Service) and the latest generation of the Antenna Scan and Phase Diversity function.
The integrated CD/DVD drive not only plays music in MP3 format, but also supports audio playback of audio and video DVDs _ both in conjunction with the BOSE(R) Surround Sound System and the Burmester(R) High- End Surround Sound-System, even in 5.1 Discrete Surround format (see chapter 9.6), otherwise in stereo. The following formats are supported: MP3, AAC, WMA, Dolby Digital, MLP and DTS.
3D Navigation Map
The 3D City model currently features approx. 40 cities in North America.
The map view gives users the option of viewing the map as the new 3D display of the terrain and city models, in the familiar perspective or as a normal two-dimensional display. The scale of the map is adjusted continuously when the entire route is displayed in order to show the remaining distance from the vehicle position to the destination flag at maximum enlargement. The Autozoom function allows the scale of the map to be adjusted automatically depending on the distance to the next turn-off. Additional graphic turn-off instructions with lane recommendations are displayed for better guidance at motorway exits and junctions.
A speed limit display is available for the first time in the new Panamera. This shows any speed limits that apply on the roads recorded in the navigation system on the PCM (Car display) or in the TFT display on the instrument cluster.
The navigation module has an integrated 40 GB hard drive, on which navigation data for most countries in any region (e.g. Europe, North America, Middle East, etc.) is stored.
