Removing And Installing Wire Harness For Removable Trailer Hitch

Preliminary work for removing and installing wire harness for removable trailer hitch
1. Remove rear apron.
2. Remove right luggage compartment cover.

Removing wire harness for removable trailer hitch
1. Switch off ignition and remove remote control.
2. Remove guard







3. Detach upper part of cover -1- from trailer hitch motor by turning -A- and remove -B-.







4. Release electrical plug connection -1- using a screwdriver -a- and disconnect.







5. Disconnect electrical plug connection -2-
6. Detach three tie wraps at trailer hitch.







INFORMATION: Always replace the fastening screws and nuts after customer service and reworking. The micro-self-locking screws must not be treated, greased or loosened and then screwed on again.

7. Unscrew two fastening screws -1- of plug socket -2- and remove plug socket.







8. Release three catches on socket housing using a screwdriver.
9. Remove lower part of socket housing -1- and push back rubber seal -2-.







10. Release three catches on plug using a screwdriver and remove socket housing -3-.
11. Guide plug socket through recess in trailer hitch.
12. Remove fastening nut -1- and detach ground cable -2-.







13. Release and disconnect electrical plug connection -3- from trailer hitch control unit -a-.
14. Remove grommet -1- from body and guide wire harness out of body.







15. Detach tie wraps -2- of the four fastening clips.
16. Remove wire harness.

Installing wire harness for removable trailer hitch
1. Position wire harness.
2. Guide wire harness through opening in body and insert grommet -1- in opening.







3. Attach wire harness to four fastening clips -2- with tie wraps.
4. Guide plug socket through recess in trailer hitch.
5. Insert plug socket -1- in socket housing until plug socket engages securely.







6. Fit rubber seal -2- and fit lower part of socket housing -3-. Ensure that seal makes good contact and that lower part of housing engages securely.

INFORMATION: Always replace the fastening screws and nuts after customer service and reworking. The micro-self-locking screws must not be treated, greased or loosened and then screwed on again.

7. Screw plug socket -2- to trailer hitch with two fastening screws -1-.
- Tightening torque: 3.5 Nm (2.6 ftlb)







8. Attach wire harness to three fastening clips with tie-wraps. Ensure that wire harness follows contours of trailer hitch.







9. Insert electric plug connections -1- and -2- in trailer hitch motor until plugs engage securely.







10. Fit upper part of motor cover -1- onto motor of trailer hitch -A- and turn to lock -B- until upper part engages securely.







11. Attach ground cable -2- with fastening nut -1-.
- Tightening torque: 9.7 Nm (7.2 ftlb)







12. Insert electrical plug connection -3- in trailer hitch control unit until it engages securely.
13. Attach guard







Subsequent work for removing and installing wire harness for removable trailer hitch
1. Attach right side trim panel for luggage compartment.
2. Install right luggage compartment cover.
