Technical values
Preliminary work
1. Move front lid to service position. -> 552213 Securing lid (service position) - section on "Securing" 552213 Securing Lid (Service Position)
2. Remove covers on the two hinges and ignition module for lid. -> 696955 Replacing ignition module for lid - section on "Removing" 696919 Removing and installing ignition module for lid
Removing front lid
1. Remove spray nozzles. -> 926619 Removing and installing spray nozzle for windscreen washer system - section on "Removing" Service and Repair
2. Remove courtesy lights for front lid. For details, see -> 964355 Removing and installing bulb for engine-compartment light - section on "Removing".
Information
The wire harness must only be removed from the front lid up to the hinge.
3. Detach grommet and retaining clip for wire harness for front lid. For details, see -> 925419 Removing and installing hose for windscreen washer system - section on "Removing" Service and Repair.
4. Pull wire harness and washer-fluid hoses out of the lid.
5. Removing front lid
5.1. A second person should hold the lid to prevent it from closing accidentally.
5.2. Loosen upper pneumatic-spring mounting for front lid. -> 553119 Removing and installing front pneumatic spring - section on "Loosening" Service and Repair
5.3. Screw off fastening nuts -1- for front lid.
5.4. Remove front lid.

Installing front lid
1. Fit the front lid at the two hinges and tighten the fastening nuts -1- slightly.

2. Clip in upper pneumatic-spring mounting for front lid. For details, see -> 553119 Removing and installing front pneumatic spring - section on "Securing" Service and Repair.
3. Pull wire harness and washer-fluid hoses into the front lid.
4. Press in grommet and retaining clip for wire harness for front lid. For details, see -> 925419 Removing and installing hose for windscreen washer system - section on "Installing" Service and Repair.
5. Install courtesy lights for front lid. For details, see -> 964355 Removing and installing bulb for engine-compartment light - section on "Installing".
6. Close the front lid by moving it out of service position -> 552213 Securing lid (service position) - section on "Securing" 552213 Securing Lid (Service Position).
7. Adjust the front lid. -> 552215 Adjusting front lid - section on "Adjusting" Adjustments
8. Tighten fastening nuts for front lid to the specified tightening torque => Tightening torque: 20 Nm (15 ftlb.).
Checking front lid lock
Function test on front lid lock
Information
The lid lock does not have an emergency release.
When working close to the front apron and on the various parts of the lock, carry out the following function test before closing the lid:
1. Check that the release cable is clipped fully into the brackets provided.
2. Lock the lower part of the lid lock with a screwdriver.
3. Release the lid lock using the lever in the passenger compartment.
4. Perform a visual inspection to check that the lock releases correctly.
