WM 461019 Removing and installing mounting saddle
Preliminary work
1. Remove steering column-> 481519 Removing and installing steering column - section on "Removing" 481519 Removing and installing steering column.
2. Remove brake booster-> 477019 Removing and installing brake booster - section on "Removing".
3. Remove brake light switch-> 943619 Removing and installing brake light switch - section on "Removing" Service and Repair.
4. On manual transmission: Remove clutch master cylinder-> 302019 Removing and installing clutch master cylinder - section on "Removing" Service and Repair.
Removing mounting saddle
WARNING
Incorrect handling of airbag units
- Triggering of airbag unit
- System faults can occur
-> Switch off ignition and remove ignition key.
-> Disconnect the battery and insulate the ground strap so that all contact with a ground carrier is avoided.
-> Wait 1 minute after disconnecting the battery.
-> Only pull off connector on the triggering unit after the waiting time has elapsed.
-> Make sure that no foreign objects are located in front of the airbag unit during installation.
-> Replace damaged parts during removal.
-> Always position the airbag unit in such a way that the airbag opening is facing upwards.
-> If removed for an extended period, the airbag unit must be stored in a safe place.
-> Airbag units must not come into contact with grease, oil, detergents, liquids, or similar substances.
-> Do not expose airbag units to temperatures above 90°.
-> Do not remove the short-circuit spring on the plug-in contacts.
-> Ignition and preparations may only be carried out by skilled staff, supervised by a second responsible person.
-> Before disposal, the airbag unit must be rendered harmless by electrical ignition performed in accordance with all precautionary measures, thereby preventing it from being used incorrectly.
1. Unclip electric push-on connector -1- from the body.
Removing pedal bearing block
2. Release and disconnect the electrical push-on connector -1- () -A- ).
3. Unscrew fastening screws -4- for mounting saddle.
4. Remove crash support -2-.
4.1. Unscrew fastening screws -3- for crash support.
4.2. Turn crash support -2- by 90°.
4.3. Pull crash support -2- down and over the brake pedal -5- and remove it.
Information
The mounting saddle is attached to one eye during production. This is provided with a desired breaking point and must be broken off when first removed.
Therefore, the mounting saddle must be swivelled firmly to the rear to break off the eye.
5. Swivel lower mounting saddle opposite to the direction of travel ().
Information
To avoid any danger of crushing, the mounting saddle must not be held in the area of the clutch power spring for the clutch pedal when removing.
6. Remove mounting saddle.

1. The mounting saddle is installed in reverse order to removal.
2. Observe tightening torques-> 4X00IN Tightening torques for the brake hydraulic system [1][2]Hydraulic System, Brakes.
Subsequent work
1. Install brake light switch-> 943619 Removing and installing brake light switch - section on "Installing" Service and Repair.
2. Install steering column-> 481519 Removing and installing steering column - section on "Installing" 481519 Removing and installing steering column.
3. Install brake booster-> 477019 Removing and installing brake booster - section on "Installing".
4. On manual transmission: Install clutch master cylinder-> 302019 Removing and installing clutch master cylinder - section on "Installing" Service and Repair.
