WARNING
Preloaded or pressurised components
- Risk of squashing or bruising
-> Do not reach into the danger area.
-> Relieve the tension on components before starting work.
-> Secure components to prevent them from loosening suddenly.
Information
Coil springs
- Do not press coil springs together onto the block.
- Do not damage the surface of the coil springs (corrosion protection).
- Do not use solvents to clean the coil springs.
Observe the operating instructions of the spring clamp 9823 manufacturer.
1. Release corresponding coil spring using the spring clamp 9823.
Information
The mount for the counterholding wrench (welded-on pipe with hexagon socket) at the pressure plate with locking profile -B- must be inserted into the coil spring so that the counterholding wrench -D- can be inserted.
The pressure plate with locking profile -B- and the pressure plate with corrugated profile -C- must bear flush against the spring. If necessary, carefully perform the fine adjustment of the pressure plates during the clamping process.
Spring compressor
2. Insert the pressure plate -B- into the top half of the coil spring (as far up as possible).
3. Insert the pressure plate -C- into the bottom half of the coil spring (as far down as possible) in the same way as pressure plate -B-.
4. Screw the clamping cylinder -A- as far apart as required and insert from below through the lower pressure plate -C- and through the upper pressure plate -B-.
5. Lock the plunger of the clamping cylinder -A- in the upper pressure plate -B- by turning 60°.
6. When clamping, hold the upper pressure plate -B- in position using the counterholding wrench -D-. This prevents twisting.
Spring clamp inserted
7. Carefully press the coil spring further together using spring clamp 9823 until the upper coil spring mount can be removed from the side and set down at a suitable position.
8. Remove lower coil spring mount.
9. Guide out the coil spring and upper coil spring mount with care.
Installing
Installing coil spring
Fundamentals:
- Always replace coil springs in pairs.
- Only coil springs and mounts (supports) with the appropriate colour coding should be installed together (depending on tolerance class of spring). Note Parts Catalogue.
Information
The steel springs are inserted together with the mounts (supports) on the lower trailing arm in accordance with their coding (precise installation position).
The bottom of the spring must be facing the outside of the vehicle and the top of the spring must be facing the inside of the vehicle.
1. Carefully insert coil spring into the mounts in the correct position using spring clamp 9823.
2. Spring clamp 9823 must be released a little to ensure that the spring is seated securely in the mounts.
3. Spring clamp 9823 must then be carefully removed.
