46531900 Removing and installing rear brake disc

WM 465319 Removing and installing rear brake disc

Tools

Preliminary work

Remove wheel.

-> 440519 Removing and installing wheel or

-> 440519 Removing and installing wheel with central bolt.

General warning notes

WARNING

Installation of brake pads with the wrong brake pad quality

- Longer braking distance
- More wear on brake pads

-> Only use the type-specific brake pads listed in the Porsche Parts Catalogue.
-> Replace the brake pads when the brake pad wear indicator light comes on, but no later than when there is a residual pad thickness of 2 mm on each axle.
-> Replace the brake discs on each axle as soon as the brake pad wear limit is reached.

NOTICE

Removing/fitting wheels

- Risk of damage to (ceramic) brake discs

-> Use two assembly pins when removing and fitting the wheel.
-> Carefully guide the wheel towards the wheel hub, thereby preventing any heavy impact on the (ceramic) brake disc.

Removing rear brake disc

WARNING

Risk of accidents if brake pads and/or brake discs are not replaced in time.

- Danger of injury and damage to vehicle if braking effect is impaired.

-> The brake pads must be replaced on each axle when the brake pad warning indicator lights up, but no later than when there is a residual pad thickness of 2 mm.

1. The adjustment fixture can be twisted through the bores in the wheel mounting.
2. Turn the brake disc in such a way that the adjustment fixture becomes visible. Using a -screwdriver- , turn the adjustment fixture towards "release" through the bore. => Adjusting the parking brake

Adjusting the parking brake

3. Push brake pads back slightly and evenly using piston resetting fixture (replaces P83) NR.144 , refer to Tools and Equipment -arrow-.

Pushing back brake pad

4. Undo brake caliper on wheel carrier and hang it in a suitable place in the wheel well (do not open the brake hydraulics). To do this, separate the holder for the brake hose/wear indicator at the body side.
5. Remove brake disc after unscrewing the fastening screws. If necessary, remove the brake disc by tapping it gently with a rubber hammer.

Do not confuse right and left brake discs during assembly!

Distinguishing characteristic: Part No.! The flat surface of the brake discs is marked with R = right or L = left.
1. Check that all parts are in perfect condition and replace them if necessary.
2. When replacing brake discs -2- on vehicles with centre-lock wheel, five new wheel hubs -1- must be fitted.
The wheel attachments -1- (5 x), comprising an attachment pin -1.1- , sleeve -1.2- and self-locking screw -1.3- , are only available as a set for one brake disc (Part No. 997.341.901.00).
2.1. When fitting the wheel attachments -1- , always check the following:

All contact surfaces must be clean and free of grease.
Tightening torque for self-locking screws -1.3- = 6 Nm (4.5 ftlb.).

Attachment on brake disc

3. Clean the levelling and centering surfaces on the brake disc and wheel hub. Then apply a very thin coat of Optimoly TA to the centering surface on the wheel hub.
4. Fit the brake disc. Observe specified tightening torque. -> 46 Tightening torques for brake mechanics - Technical values
5. Adjust brake shoes on the parking brake.-> 468316 Adjusting brake shoes => Adjusting parking brake

Adjusting parking brake

6. Fit the brake caliper. Replace the brake caliper fastening screws each time they are removed. Observe specified tightening torque. -> 46 Tightening torques for brake mechanics - Technical values
7. Position disc brake pads by operating the brake several times.
8. Check brake fluid level and correct if necessary. The brake fluid level must be between the MAX-MIN marking. => Brake system: checking fluid level -> 470801 Checking brake fluid level

Brake system: checking fluid level

Bedding in the brake pads

New brake pads must be worn in (bedding-in period). Their optimum braking effect is therefore not reached until after a few hundred kilometers. The slightly reduced braking effect must be compensated for by increased pressure on the brake pedal.
The same also applies after changing the brake disc.

Subsequent work

Install wheel.

-> 440519 Removing and installing wheel or

-> 440519 Removing and installing wheel with central bolt.
