Preliminary work
1. Remove air cleaner housing.

2. Remove rear apron.

3. Remove bumper with heat shield.

4. Remove rear silencer.

Information
Specifications for wrench sizes (a/f specifications) for screw heads are described as follows:
- Torx screws: (E.) for external Torx, (T.) for internal Torx.
- Hexagon-head bolts (internal and external hexagon): Wrench size (a/f)

1. Unclip electric line for exhaust temperature sensor (turbocharger 4-6) on the engine carrier. -arrows-

Information
- It may only be supported over a large area at the oil pan.
- Localised loading is not permitted.
2. Support the engine at the oil pan using the transmission and unit jack Junior Jack 2.0 WE 1223 and GA passenger car transmission plate WE 1224.
2.1. When positioning, pay attention to the oil level sensor.
2.2. Unscrew two special M12 nuts -1- (internal Torx T55) on the engine mountings at the left and right.

3. Unscrew special screw (a/f 16, M10 x 130) -arrow- through the bore hole in the rear cross member.
3.1. Keep an eye on the spacer sleeve in the engine compartment when pulling out the screw.

Information
- When lowering, the engine must not rest on the rear axle cross member.
4. Lower the engine.
5. Loosen the other screws on the engine carrier.
5.1. Loosen and unscrew fastening screw (a/f 16, M10 x 80) -2-. Keep an eye on the spacer sleeve in the engine compartment when pulling out the screw.
5.2. Unscrew two M10 fastening nuts (a/f 16) -1-.

6. Guide engine carrier out of the threaded bolts and remove it.
6.1. The intermediate flange can remain on the threaded bolts.
7. Clean the engine carrier carefully and check for damage (cracks, deformation).
8. The engine carrier must be replaced if it is damaged.
Installing engine carrier

-> Secure components to prevent them from falling down.
1. Slide the engine carrier onto the threaded bolts and position it using two M10 collar nuts -1- (a/f 16) and a hexagon-head bolt (a/f 16, M10 x 80) -2-.

1.1. Fit top right spacer sleeve with the hexagon-head bolt.

- It may only be supported over a large area at the oil pan.
- Localised loading is not permitted.
2. Secure the engine in installation position using the transmission jack and screw on two special nuts (internal Torx, T55, M12) -1- on the threaded bolts for the engine mounting.

3. Position spacer sleeve for special screw (a/f 16, M10 x 130).
3.1. Fit special screw (a/f 16, M10 x 130) -arrow- through the bore hole in the rear cross member and tighten it.
=> Tightening torque: 65 Nm (48 ftlb.)

4. Tighten two M10 fastening nuts (a/f 16) and one M10 x 80 fastening screw (a/f 16).
=> Tightening torque: 65 Nm (48 ftlb.)
5. Tighten special nuts (internal Torx T55, M12).
=> Tightening torque: 85 Nm (63 ftlb.)
6. Clip in electric line for exhaust temperature sensor at the engine carrier -arrows-.

Subsequent work
1. Install rear silencer.
=> 263319 Removing and installing rear silencer - Turbo.
2. Install bumper and heat shield.
=> 635019 Removing and installing rear bumper.
3. Install the rear apron.
=> 635519 Removing and installing rear apron.
4. Install air cleaner housing.
=> 242519 Removing and installing air cleaner housing.
