Information
Specifications for wrench sizes (a/f specifications) for screw heads are described as follows:
- Torx screws: (E.) for external Torx, (T.) for internal Torx.
- Hexagon-head bolts (internal and external hexagon): Wrench size (a/f)
1. Remove turbocharger shield -1- , to do this unscrew the external Torx screws (E10, M6 x 12) -2-.
2. Release and pull off cable plug -3- on electronic adjuster -arrow-.

3. Unscrew cheese head bolts with washer (hexagon socket a/f 5, M6 x 26) -1- on electronic adjuster.
3.1. Tool recommendation: Bit insert for hexagon socket a/f 5 with ratchet ring wrench a/f 8.

4. Remove turbocharger oil tank.
-> 217519 Removing and installing turbocharger oil tank.
5. Detach ball head for actuating rod on turbocharger -1- using a screwdriver.

6. Remove turbocharger heat shield -1- , to do this unscrew two hexagon-head bolts (a/f 10, M6 x 16) -2-.

7. Unscrew cheese head bolt with washer -1- on electronic adjuster.
7.1. Tool recommendation: Bit insert for hexagon socket a/f 5 with ratchet ring wrench a/f 8

8. Remove electronic adjuster in a downward direction.
9. Replace actuating rod for adjustment mechanism.

1. Disconnect and pull off cable plug -1- on electronic adjuster -arrow-.
2. Unscrew one cheese head bolt with washer (hexagon socket a/f 5, M6 x 26) -2- on electronic adjuster.
2.1. Tool recommendation: long socket-wrench insert with ball head (3/8 inch) for hexagon socket a/f 5

3. Detach ball head of actuating rod on turbocharger -1- using a screwdriver -arrow-.
4. Unscrew two cheese head bolts with washer (hexagon socket a/f 5, M6 x 26) -2 and 3- on electronic adjuster.
4.1. Tool recommendation: long socket-wrench insert (3/8 inch) with ball head for hexagon socket a/f 5 and short extension.

5. Remove electronic adjuster.

6. Replace actuating rod for adjustment mechanism.

Information
- Replace the actuating rod for the adjustment mechanism after removing the electronic adjuster.
1. Fit the new actuating rod on the ball head of the removed electronic adjuster before installing the electronic adjuster.
2. Insert electronic adjuster with actuating rod from below and guide actuating rod towards the ball head on the turbocharger.
3. Secure electronic adjuster.
Tool recommendation: see removal details.
3.1. Fit two cheese head bolts with washer (hexagon socket a/f 5, M6 x 26) -1- on electronic adjuster, but do not tighten yet.

3.2. Fit third cheese head bolt with washer (hexagon socket a/f 5, M6 x 26) -1- , but do not tighten yet.

4. Fit ball head for actuating rod on turbocharger -3- ( -arrow- ).

5. Tighten cheese head bolts on electronic adjuster.
=> Tightening torque: 8 Nm (6 ftlb.)
6. Install turbocharger heat shield -1- , to do this fit and tighten two hexagon-head bolts (a/f 10, M6 x 16) -2-.
=> Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)
7. Install turbocharger oil tank.
-> 217519 Removing and installing turbocharger oil tank.
8. Connect cable plug on electronic adjuster.
9. Install turbocharger shield -1- , to do this fit and tighten two external Torx screws (E10, M6 x 12) -2-.
=> Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)

Information
- Replace the actuating rod for the adjustment mechanism after removing the electronic adjuster.
1. Fit the new actuating rod on the ball head of the removed electronic adjuster before installing the electronic adjuster.
2. Insert electronic adjuster with actuating rod. Guide actuating rod to the ball head on the turbocharger.
3. Secure electronic adjuster.
Tool recommendation: see removal details.
3.1. Fit one fastening screw with washer (hexagon socket a/f 5, M6 x 26) -2- at the top of the electronic adjuster, but do not tighten yet.

3.2. Fit two fastening screws (hexagon socket a/f 5, M6 x 26) -2 and 3- at the bottom of the electronic adjuster, but do not tighten yet.
3.3. Fit ball head of actuating rod on turbocharger -1-.

4. Tighten cheese head bolts with washer (hexagon socket a/f 5, M6 x 26) on electronic adjuster.
=> Tightening torque 8 Nm (6 ftlb.), same as bank 1-3
5. Connect cable plug on electronic adjuster -1-.

Subsequent work
1. Install heat shield.
-> 635019 Removing and installing rear bumper.
2. Install charge air cooler.
-> 214319 Removing and installing charge air cooler.
